One of the components of Beatles success was their intense interest in experimenting.  This song from the Revolver album demonstrates their freewheeling minds.  Today we wouldn't think anything of the new techniques but back then they were revolutionary.  Keep in mind that back then one could only record 4 tracks, which meant much imagination in how to include many of the sounds they put together.  This song is Tomorrow Never Knows.

This artist was popular in TV and in music in the 50's and faded in the '60's.  He had a career revival in the 70's but died in a plane crash.  This was one of his songs from the 60's, a cover of the original artists.  Some very nice guitar work in the middle.

Chicago, great band. Years back a mate had the best stereo system, well I thought so, and anytime we went over for a few beers or party, I would find his Chicago album and play it, loud. I’m not a fan of cover songs, original is best usually, but in this case Chicago’s version of Steve Winwoods classic is great, with all the extra layers of sound. Give it a look, see what it’s all about.      https://youtu.be/WM6l7twOfso?si=ufMrhhzKxt1qlTa8

Chicago went through so many changes, so many different sounds, all really great sounds!  Some complain about the “Peter Ceterra” days, and the horns. I loved the ‘horn’ era, and while Peter’s specialty was rock ballads, so yeah, but there’s no denying his vastly superior vocal capabilities.
 One of my favourite bands.

I liked Chicago a lot.

And speaking of horns...here is a very basic hollow body guitar work with some fantastic sax.  I really like great sex....err....sax...well both!

On this date in 1966, THE HOLLIES released the single BUS STOP (Jun 17, 1966).

The song's success was immediate and widespread. It peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart and became The Hollies' first US top ten hit, reaching the same position on the Billboard charts in September 1966. In Canada, it soared to the top, securing the number 1 spot and marking the band's second top ten hit there. Billboard praised the single for its "good group vocal on this teen-aimed, easy-rocker," while Cash Box highlighted its "rollicking, hard-driving bluesy weeper" quality.

I still listen to the Hollies.  Love their songs.  Too bad Nash decided to leave.

This rock song goes back to the 1880's.  Yes, that's right!  The 1880's.  It's probably the oldest rock song ever.

On this day in 1978, the Gerry Rafferty single “Baker Street” went to #1 on the Australian charts (June 19, 1978).

The song went to #1 in Australia, Canada, and South Africa, #2 in the US and Switzerland, #3 in the UK, Ireland and Germany, #4 in New Zealand and Austria, and #9 in the Netherlands and Belgium.

For “Baker Street”, Rafferty received the 1978 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.

I had the album!  Easy listening music.

I was in first year engineering when this song came out.  It's a cover of a 1957 song that made the band famous.  They pumped out hit after hit in the early 70's.

Today's song comes from 1967.  It was a big hit by a guy who couldn't speak English very well.  But he could sing!

On this day in 1968, HERB ALPERT began a four-week reign at No.1 on the US singles chart with "THIS GUY'S IN LOVE WITH YOU." Written by the legendary duo Burt Bacharach and Hal David, this song captured the hearts of listeners with Alpert's soothing vocals and distinctive trumpet playing. Initially performed on "The Beat of the Brass" TV special, the overwhelming audience response led to its release as a single. It not only topped the Billboard Hot 100 but also dominated the Easy Listening chart for ten weeks.

This guy was a poet who sang rather than a singer who wrote.  He was originally embarrassed to sing because he thought he wasn't very good.  But man!  What a voice he had!
