My problem was the crappy connector Dyna supplies to hook into the red/yellow wire. It supplies power to the Dyna red wites to the pickups. The connector wasn’t making contact so no voltage was going to the coils. I found a spare hot wire at the neck It was a brown double female connector
Maybe check your voltage from the red wire to battery ground. You need 12 volts or a reasonable close estimate

Remembered to bring my meter home to check the charging system on the LeMans.
It appears the alternator rotor and rectifier have given up.
Time to give MG cycle some money.
Simple solution. Go green. Go KAWASAKI.

Success! I found a short in the Dyna wire harness/Connectors. It was confusing. Everything would all test fine and then would short out when I bundled the wires and put the gas tank on.
I cleaned and re-crimped the connectors and it is fine now.
It's nice to have on the road again!
Too many Kawasaki's? That can't be. lol

Glad to hear you had some success!
Went for a short road trip to Eagle Bay and back. Just as we were entering Sorrento one of my throttle cables broke inside the grip. Luckily I had two spare sets at home so Sweetums rode back and brought me the spares. First time in a long time I used only the Kawasaki tools from the toolkit to fix my bike while broke down on the road. Two hrs later we were back on the road.

Sometimes you can get home at 30 to 40 mph using your idle screw and kill switch, and clutch.

Broken throttle and clutch cables at the grip are all too common. I have a spare clutch cable zap strapped to the actuating one. Don’t carry a spare throttle cable because in a pinch, you can just use the push cable in place of the pull cable.
A very common overlooked maintenance item is to ensure that the lead cable ends at the grips are well greased. If not properly lubricated, they bind and bend back and forth until they break. Ask me how I know.

Yes, and the occasional inspection would also help. I tried to remember the last time I checked those cables...I couldn't remember EVER doing it.
Frank, I thought about limping home but it would have been 15 miles on the Trans Canada in summer traffic so I decided not to.

Good point John!
Today was carb day. I spent 4 hrs trying to set the floats for my project bike. I think I got one or two, but the other ones....

I have a couple of bent valves in my resto so parts are ordered and it's sitting in the corner. Yesterday I resurrected my KZ1000 and put insurance on it for three months. I took it up to Balmoral for some hi test (across from Dreamcycle) and back in windy and showery conditions. Forgot how much I like to ride that bike compared to a Z1. Much nicer in corners and much smoother above 4,000 rpm. I'm thinking of making it my go to bike for the rest of the summer.

Bill,
Of all the Zeds I’ve had, my current 79 LTD is by far my favourite to ride. My 76 kz900 has a wicked shake/tank slapped above 70mph in any corner. My 78 kz1000 was mostly ok, but would develop a shake/tank slapped totally unpredictably. Had another 78 kz1000 that I didn’t keep long enough to get to know. My current Z1 is stable as a rock at any speed but rough, like riding a shopping cart.
But my Led Zed is a great. Starts super easy, isles down immediately. Solid and stable at any speed. For riding, it’s the best Zed I’ve had. Funny how different they all were even though they’re essentially the same machine.

For sure Ross! Mine is an LTD also, if that has anything to do with it. If I could only get rid of that barking at lower revs.....

I drained the fluids cleaned and detailed my stock LC350 and parked it in the basement. The hybrid I have with the RZ motor and big brakes is more fun to ride.
