Leaking fork seals
«

Has anyone had any success cleaning grit from weeping fork seals in situ? I tried it on my mountain bike years ago with no success. Maybe they were just worn out.
My friend has 2022 Africa Twin. A few weeks ago he took it on some really gnarly roads/tracks out by Williams Lake. Dropped it several times in the mud and clay. Now both fork seals are leaking. I suggested trying to clean them in situ with a plastic tool. You can buy them or try a homemade one.
Has anyone had any success cleaning grit from leaky/weepy fork seals?

Bought me another year on my Stelvio but, ultimately I ended up changing them.

Seems like it’s common with the Africa Twin. Honda is hit or miss with the warranty.

Sometimes a very thin feeler gauge can be slipped between the tube and seal (or strip of 35mm negative, remember those?) and worked around the seal while lifting up. Sometimes you can catch a bit of grit and get lucky.

Interesting that on a couple of forums I read, guys are trashing the OEM Honda seals. They recommend SKF or, and get this, Kawasaki seals.

So, I was talking to my friend who has the 2022 Africa Twin. Haven’t spoken to him since I heard his fork seals were leaking. Not just weeping, but leaking.
Only 8,000kms, but….just over one year from purchase. Honda Canada refused warranty because he had taken it off pavement.
WTF?!?
