ANY ONE LOOKING FOR AN OLD NORTON TO FINISH RESTORING? BASED ON WHAT IS STATED THE ASKING PRICE IS DEFINITELY IN LINE - MY OPINION ONLY.
Roger is an excellent source for British bikes on the Island and has been a member of VMC for many years.

Hi Roger. Hope you’re enjoying the current incarnation of global warming.... As I approach my 81st, it is clear that I am not going to get to finishing my Norton Atlas. So it’s time to find someone who has the time and inclination to take it on. I bought it from Robin Mullet 14 or 15 years ago as a complete and running motorcycle for $ 3000 which I rode down the street. ( The only thing missing is the battery platform for the battery box ). The rest of the tin is all there and in good shape ). It was apparently parked in 1972. For the first couple of years, I worked on it, replaced parts and fixed things. As the engine ran but had what I thought was a top end issue, I took it apart and found that the top of the engine was 1964 ( the year of the bike ) and the bottom was 1966. ( I was promised the original bottom end but that didn’t happen ). The head, rods and barrel were in need of replacement so the procedure started. I bought new rods, a couple of 66 heads, new pistons, guides, valves, springs, big end shells, superblend bearings and shims, new rear sprocket/drum and bolts, gaskets, clutch plates, carb parts for the original ’64 carbs, brake shoes, spare front brake plate, spare 19 inch rear wheel, fork bushings, handlebars, as well as new installed front rim and spokes, TT100 tyres, tubes and rim locks, replaced the damaged front fender with one I sourced from California which was perfect after rechroming at Victoria plating, new wiring harness and on and on including a $ 500 rebuild of the mag and lots more in the neighbourhood of $ 5500 at the time plus tools, books manuals and the like getting to the figure of at least $ 8500. Not long after, health problems got in the way and many things in life changed so it’s been quite dormant as I got into other things. I even have a spare gearbox along with lots of new parts equaling almost three pages of stuff, including the above mentioned. So I’m into this project in the $ 8500 plus range but realize I won’t get that out of it. I’m looking for $ 5500 for absolutely everything or can keep some of the spares if someone doesn’t want the extra parts with a lower price as I can always find someone for Norton parts. If you know of someone who would be interested in it, I’d like to sell all of it as I’ll just stick to the two Triumphs. I would be happy to send photos and information in the mail to anyone interested. There is a lot of stuff and I have taken photos of it. Al Maas also has a set of photos but not a list of the stuff in the pictures. Hope there’s someone out there looking for a complete bike to put together and enjoy.
