This is one of those crazy songs that come along every few years.  Chumbawamba's "I Get Knocked Down" is an example.  This one comes from the sixties for those who remember that decade.

The week of November 27, 1965, Herb Alpert's " Whipped Cream and Other Delights, became the biggest selling album of 1965-1966.    It won the Grammy Album of the Year in 1966. Included on the album was Herb's first top 10 Billboard hit, " A Taste of Honey".

Yesterday I was thinking about my life when I was 21 yrs old.  I was going to university and spending a lot of time in Saskatoon bars.  There was a group of us living in a house together and partying every weekend.  It was a lot of fun.  Then I thought about this song...an old Russian folk song.

There used to be a bar called The Red Lion in Saskatoon.  Everyone went there pretty much every night so it was packed and hard to get a seat.  I remember hearing a local band cover this song and doing it well.

There was another bar called the Cavalier that was always fulll.  You usually had to wait in line to get a seat and you never knew who you would be sitting with.  The bar had constant music and this song seemed to be played endlessly.

YUP, the ultimate Motorcycle song.  1990, on my way from Surrey B.C. to a big CBX National Rally in Calgary.  Had a cassette deck mounted in my tank bag, and had earphones on.  Pulled onto the TCH in Surrey, switched on the tape, and THIS was the first song to come on.  Totally Appropriate, and AWESOME memory of riding that '81 CBX for 20 years before I finally sold it, to downsize.

Appearances on best-album lists and further recognition
Rubber Soul was voted fifth in Paul Gambaccini's 1978 book Critic's Choice: Top 200 Albums,[350] based on submissions from a panel of 47 critics and broadcasters including Richard Williams,[351] Christgau and Marcus.[352] In the first edition of Colin Larkin's book All Time Top 1000 Albums, in 1994, it was ranked at number 10,[353] and in 1998 it was voted the 39th greatest album of all time in the first "Music of the Millennium" poll,[354] conducted by HMV and Channel 4.[355] It was listed at number 34 in the third edition of Larkin's All Time Top 1000 Albums, published in 2000.[356][357]

Since 2001, Rubber Soul has appeared in critics' best-albums-of-all-time lists compiled by VH1 (at number 6),[358] Mojo (number 27) and Rolling Stone (number 5).[204] It was among Time magazine's selection of the "All-Time 100 Albums" in 2006[359] and was favoured over Revolver in Chris Smith's book 101 Albums That Changed Popular Music three years later.[360][361] In 2012, Rolling Stone again placed it at number 5 on the magazine's revised list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".[73] In September 2020, Rubber Soul was ranked at number 35 on the same publication's new list.[362]

Rubber Soul was a major shift for the Beatles.  They went from live performances to studio work.

This band is coming to Vancouver in the near future.  I love those bagpipes!

There is something dreamy about the sound of a dobro guitar.  This guy was one of the best at guitars in general and steel guitars in particular.  This song starts out slowly but gets into a irrisistable rhythm with some beautiful dobro.
