I first heard about this group in the early 70's by reading an article in Playboy.  (Yes they had some pretty good writers!). I had the band's first album Bloodshot.  It was good but not popular.  The group finally became popular in the late 70's.  By then they were tired of each other but they managed to put together some good songs, including this one.

Back in the early sixties songs were short.  They had to be in order to make a radio playlist.  This duo excelled at short songs.

This group started an entirely new offshoot to rock music.  One of their biggest hits was made famous by Eric Clapton.  Here it is.

He went to London and freaked out all the great guitarists.  He played his guitar upside down because he was left handed.

You can really hear the gospel influence in Dobie's voice.

This group rivalled the Beatles in the sixties and this may have been their best song...a great example of singing harmony.

Yes, the White Album was probably one of the best ever, but only #3 of the Beatles' albums.  I would rank Sgt Peppers their best and Abby Road as #2.  I really like Dear Prudence, which is a song about Prudencce Farrow, younger sister of Mia.  She was into TM and was in India when the Beatles visited.  She refused to come out of her room, preferring instead to meditate.  But my all time favourite Beatle song is this one....that never made it onto an album.  I think it defines everything they were about back then.

I watched a show on Pluto last night titled BB King at Albert Hall.  It was taped in 2011 when King was well into his 80's, and not such a good singer or guitar player as he was in his prime.  But he had guests, in this case Slash and Ronnie Wood that played guitar for King and made the songs seem much better.  King had other guests in other shows.  Here is just one example.

November 23, 2011,   Rolling Stone Magazine rated Jimi Hendrix as the greatest guitar player in history.

  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFfnlYbFEiE       Voodoo Child.    July 18, 1970.

This was a live gathering, free to 300-350 curious visitors, at the rural North Maui Baldwin cattle ranch just above the village of Olinda.  It was a contractual obligation of sorts,,,,of the Film Rainbow Bridge, shot in Maui, in exchange for Hendrix soundtrack to be on the film.

Hendrix would pass away September 18, 1970.

I've been to this farm, first in 1983, then a few times over the decades as our family had condo use on Maui virtually free until 2007.

I agree on Jimi but at that level how do you figure out how to rank them?  Here is another pretty good guitarist.
