He got sued when he put this song out.  Nevertheless it was one of his greatest hits.

I became a fan of this group around 1970 and stuck with them for a long time because their music was somewhat western, which is the mood I was in back then.  Here is one of their most popular songs.  It's a very light bouncy tune.

Ringo Starr does a cover of this song but I prefer the original version by this artist.  Once again, from my country days.

On this date, August 6, 1970, James Taylor released the single " Fire and Rain".

Broadcast Music, Inc. ranked "Fire and Rain" at number 82 on its "Top 100 Songs of the Century" list,[16] while voters for the National Endowment for the Arts and Recording Industry Association of America's Songs of the Century list, which comprises 365 songs of "historical significance" recorded from 1900 to 2000,[17] placed "Fire and Rain" at number 85.[18] In April 2011, the song was named at number 227 on Rolling Stone's list of 500 greatest songs of all time.[19] In September 2021, Rolling Stone updated their ranking of the 500 greatest songs of all time, moving the song up to number 146.

James was one of my favourite singers back in the 70's.  I think he was signed to Apple Records and was close to the Beatles.  But he developed a very serious drug addiction and disappeared from performing.  Then he cleaned himself up and is singing again.

Today is hump day...

One Hit Wonder.    Average White Band.     "Pick up the Pieces".

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfAJLGFWxYo

Chart performance
"Pick Up the Pieces" was released in the United Kingdom in July 1974 but failed to chart. When the album was released in the United States in October 1974, radio stations there started to play the song, and on 22 February 1975, it went to the top of the US pop singles chart and peaked at number five on the soul charts.[3] Billboard ranked it as the No. 21 song for 1975. In Canada, it reached number 4 on the weekly charts,[4] and number 44 on the year-end chart.[5] After its North American success, the song charted in the UK and climbed to number six. "Pick Up the Pieces" also made it to number eleven on the US disco chart.

Finally, to end this week long journey is a song about Saturday.  A great song from the 70's.

This week the songs will have an animal in them.  Here is the first one that came to mind.  It's from the sixties, one of the best albums ever made.
