September 13, 1975, Pink Floyd released their 9th album, " Wish You Were Here". Selling over 13 million copies, several weeks at #1 Billboard, it's been regarded by many music digests including Rolling Stone, as being in the top 10 best rock albums of all time.
Only 5 songs, separated, separated themes within each song. There's only one way to listen to this album, IMO, all at once:

I was attracted to Pink Floyd around 1970. I bought their album Piper at the Gates of Dawn and liked it. Then I bought Dark Side of the Moon and played it just like you said....all at once.
After Sgt Peppers the Beatles released Magical Mystery Tour. I bought the album and liked it but it was hard to beat Sgt Peppers and some people were disappointed. Looking back, there were some great songs on MMT, including perhaps their greatest song, Strawberry Fields. This is one of the others.

MMT was followed by the double White album. By this time, with three songwriters they had a lot of material and didn't want to have to pick and choose which songs made it and which ones would be left out. Paul had heard some of the Who's latest album and thought that a) it was pretty wild and b) The Beatles could be wilder. So he came up with a song about a local carney ride. It was the beginning of raunch rock.

The White Album contained many great songs, including a few by George. He was becoming frustrated creatively by his more famous songwriting partners, which is why the album was a double. By this time there was discord amongst the four of them. Ringo got so mad that he left the group in mid recorrding session for a vacation. George thought the group would settle down if he brought in an outsider to do the guitar work on this song. He brought Eric Clapton in and this was the result.

September 16, 1925, Birthday of BB King. Recognized by ALLMusic, as the single most important electric guitarist of the last half of the 20th Century. And known widely as the ‘King of Blues’.
Here’s “The Thrill is Gone”. One of 74 Billboard entries from him.

That's a great song from a man who reached the highest level of music in his genre. Maybe the best person who played a similar style was Jeff Beck.

The Beatles next album was Abbey Road in 1969. By this time they had all developed strong outside (outside the band) interests and were busy doing their own things. John wanted to record as they originally recorded, as a group altogether. They talked about touring live again, which ultimately led to the concert on the roof. George contributed strongly to the album with two if his best compositions, Something and Here Comes the Sun. He also brought Billy Preston in to play organ, which added a new dimension to their sound.
Hard to pick a song here because there are so many good ones, but the Medley was a group of part songs put together to make one long one. It shows the group's versatility and inventiveness.

Edited to add that this album did not lead to the concert on the roof. That came with Let it Be rehersals.

The Beatles' final album was Let it Be, in 1970. It contained a fine group of songs, including The Long and Winding Road, I Me Mine, Get Back and the title song Let it Be. All were hits, but one that wasn't a hit was this one, written by John and Paul. It's a humorous rocker showing their creativity when they worked collabouritively.

Great song! I loved the passion in his singing. To me that's the essence of a good song...that the singer can transfer emotions through singing.
This is good for a laugh....a great and popular singer as a child and an adult back in the 60's and 70's. Has not sung much lately.

Around the time this song came out I was putting a cassette machine in my Chevy van. I remember this was on the first tape I played when I was finished installing.

September 23rd, 1970, The Allman Brothers Band released their second album, “Idlewild South”. The album reached #92 on the Billboard Top 200. It contains 2 of the bands most recognizable songs, “ In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, and notably their greatest, “ Midnight Rider”.
Here’s a studio track of Midnight Rider, best heard non live.

Speaking of the Allman Brothers Band, this tune has been on my rotation lately. For a connection to the motorcycle world, Duane Allman, the composer of this one died in a bike accident. Little Martha is covered by a myriad of artists but the original is my favourite.
