Another timely song by a great group.  Their music was as good as any back in the day.

Here's her classic " What the World Needs Now" written and composed by Burt Bacharach, released April 15, 1965, #1 in Canada and #7 in the USA, and was the theme song for the 1969 movie " Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice.

It's too bad how she died.  She had a beautiful voice.

This song is a favourite of mine because it's one of the few that start with a bass riff.  And my favourite band too!

On this date, August 22, 1975, Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds' single " Fallin' in Love", reached #1 on the Billboard Top 100, #33 on the UK Singles Chart. Strangely, they decided to keep the group name from 1974 thru 1976 even though Tommy Reynolds left the group, replaced by Alan Dennison, who played keyboards on this hit song.
This is their live performance of this song on Burt Sugerman's Midnight Special, from 1976, with backup vocal help from show co-host Helen Reddy. IMO, Helen Reddy messed the performance up, her voice really was sub par generally. When you hear the talent of the groups' lead singer it really makes apparent her lower skills.

I first heard this band around 1975 and liked their energy.  Speaking of great bass intro riffs...here is another one.

I really like the story line in this song.  The singing is very monotone, which is an interesting technique, but the story line is funny, expecially the ending.

August 24,1967, The Chambers Brothers recorded "Time", at Columbia Records Studio, the original 2 minute version, which later on was expanded to an 11 minute version.
This is the live performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, January 12,1969:

This song has a very simple rhythm intro and very simple lyrics.  Unfortunately the music had clearly been purloined and became the subject of a lawsuit.

This cover came out shortly after the original and I think it might have been a bigger hit than the original.  The style is totally different, which is why I think it caught everybody's attention.

This guy had great success as a singer and songwriter.  He had a program on Canadian TV before going solo and achieving fame.  Here is one of his biggest songs.

On this date, August 27, 1972, Bread released the single “Guitar Man”. Written and performed by David Gates,  It reached #11 on the Billboard top 100.
This is a live performance from 1978 at BBC Studio One, with a purposefully more sultry lead guitar rip.

Couple of months back I listed a few Aussie groups who had some success. But I forgot this group, Fantastic lead female vocalist with great harmonies from the guys with her.      https://youtu.be/wZf41UudAbI?si=8GZ4O4UVkas3XpfF

That was a great song.  Judy Durham passed away recently.  A beautiful voice!

This is what rock and roll sounded like at its origins.  A 3 piece combo with a very laid back drummer.
