One of the great bands of the 60s. The Davies brothers at their best.    https://youtu.be/-2GmzyeeXnQ

Love those spoons!  In the summer of 1983 I spent a week in Quebec City.  Every night down at the Boardwalk watching the entertainers.  A guy down there was a genius on spoons...and was selling wooden ones for $20 a set.  I bought a set...no idea what happened to them.

Agree with the comments about the Kinks...they were badly underrated.

Here's my contribution for the day...a tune written by Paul McCartney, and sung by him but not made famous by him.  This band made it their first hit when they recorded it.

A while back there was a back and forth on summer songs.  I can't recall if this one was posted, but it's maybe the best song this member of the 27 club ever sang.

Alonzo "Lonnie" Johnson (February 8, 1899 – June 16, 1970) was an American blues and jazz singer, guitarist, violinist and songwriter. He was a pioneer of jazz guitar and jazz violin and is recognized as the first to play an electrically amplified violin.

Great choice!  After listening to your selection I went down the autoplay rabbit hole and was treated to Dave Lindley, formerly of Jackson Browne.  What a talent!

By coincidence Robert Johnson is a member of the 27 club.

Today's selection is another birthday boy....from Britain.  Was popular in the late 60's and early 70's.  I had one of his albums...was touched by this song....still am, but from a different direction now.

Another birthday boy, turning 75 today.  When thinking of which of his many hits I would post I was torn between two.  One was far more famous...perhaps one of the top 5 pop songs ever.  The other was the first song he ever wrote, which is also popular but not nearly so well known.  I chose the latter.

Today's birthday is a well known guitarist who made his own guitar as a teenager.  He played for one of the biggest bands in the world in the 70's and 80's before the lead singer died and the band broke up.  The guitarist stayed busy however, earning a PhD in astro physics before reconstituting the. band and going back on the road.  This is one of his better riffs.

When Brian May reserected  Queen, this guy became the front man. Not as flamboyant and out there as Freddie, but still super talented vocalist. He spent some time living down here in the lower mainland. This is his first band and hit.    https://youtu.be/vqdCZ0yHNa4

For a minute there I thought you meant this guy.  An equally talented singer with great range.
