SRV and Jeff Healey, fantastic. Now for something completely different. Back in 73, or there abouts, went to see Sly Stone. Very popular back then. But poor old Sly Stone was just that, stoned, so much so, that he had trouble talking, let alone trying to sing. Audience booed him, made things worse, he is now yelling and swearing at the crowd. We, or most people got up and walked out. No big deal because the previous two groups were great, Canned Heat and Lindisfarne. Heat had a minor hit or two, but Lindisfarne, being a folk rock group was a little different. I really enjoyed their music. Years later, with digital music downloads, have a few of their songs on my phone. See what you think.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cIMRaNujLA

Sly was very high energy.  I remember seeing them on Ed Sullivan.  Lindisfarne were good but it wasn't my kind of music.

This band had what some people called the perfect R&R singer.  They were very popular in the late 70's & early 80's.

You may have heard this song by Great Big Sea, who made it a hit several years ago.  But that was a cover by the original band.  This is the original.

Heart wrenching lyrics,  Unbelievable vocals. Fantastic musical arrangement. In my opinion one of the top 10 songs of the 20th century
Just listened to some of Harry Nilsson's other songs and they're brilliant.

I agree that Blue was Joni's best work.  She laid her soul out there for everyone to see.  Joni attended the same high school that I did, although she was a couple of years ahead of me.  She used to play regularly in Saskatoon coffee houses in the early 60's.  A song often played at this time of the year is "River".

Stan, I like that Nilsson song too.  It brings me back to a confusing time in my life.  This is another interesting Nilsson song....

Sticking with Nilsson, I've always liked this one from The Point.

Due to listening to a Country Station during Classic Rock Station's month long playlist of only Christmas music, I discovered that similar lyrics are repeated over the years.  Here are two songs from different decades that share very similar themes.

Country Version

1962 version with a great voice:

Yes, unrequited love is a classic country theme.  Here is another one from a true country singer, perhaps the greatest of them all.

Let's hope the mill rate drops accordingly, otherwise we'll be doing the same thing this guy did.

Wow, 33.4 percent increase for us. Damn the Guv'ment ! Nice wish on the mill rate but someone has to pay for what it is costing to keep people at home right now.

Most of municipal governments have already indicated their tax increase percentage for the coming year, and yer right, several percent on most.  Thankfully, mill rate does help to stabilize what we pay, but holy crap, assessed values up almost 38%, in my case.    Makes anyone just coming into the market battling a steadily rising wall.
