Johnny Nash was a fine singer!  He died not too long ago.

It appears that the Peter Jackson "Get Back" trilogy points a finger at George as the one who broke up the Beatles.  George himself once said that Paul was very accepting of George's material for a record...after Paul's 10 songs were added.  Of course this left very little room, if any for George's compositions.  By the time the Beatles neared the end of their partnership George had become just as good a composer as John and Paul, as his later albums would demonstrate so clearly.  When I listen to the Beatles now, which is often I find that I enjoy George's songs more and more.  Here is a nice blues tune.

November 1986,,,,,,little sister and I decided to rent a co-workers parents' winter home for better part of 2 months, on Montserrat, WI. Boss wouldn't let me go, so quit. He hired me back after I came back, kept my seniority. Got the idea after visiting the Montserrat display at Expo 86. Was a neighbor of George Martin's recording studio as we found out. Brought along many friends, parents, brother, etc, in various stints to this 8 bedroom massive place with Olympic size pool, 4 acres of coconuts, plantain, breadfruit, kiwi, Rented a car from the police inspector, Inspector Telesford. Hung out with British Army. Hung out with British naval officers on HMS Achillies. Invited us onto the officers mess twice so they could drink "official visitors ration" rum. Dad went nut, drinking them all under the table. Hung out with Deep Purple , inviting us to the studio for a couple nights. Smoke on the Water for 1 hr straight, drinking Montserrat Bay Rum. Hung out with many 'sort of rich' American kids from the American Medical University of the Caribbean,, at the Plantation pub. owned by 2 gay guys from Toronto. George Odoud [Boy George] spent many an evening hanging out with his band at the Plantation.  . Went over to Antigua for 2 weeks to visit my Dad's work buddy from St. Vincent. So many stories. I'd get arrested today.  very good times!!
anyways, this song reminds me of this great time, reggae, calypso, etc.

Great song by Ten CC.  There is some history behind the song...why it was composed.

Speaking of memories, I spent a summer working in Pickle Lake, Ontario back in 1980.  It was the year Mt St Helens exploded and the ash travelled all the way to our location, covering the trees with a light dusting.  This song and band was popular back then.  I have the song on my phone because it's a good running song.

Haven't posted up any songs I like for a while. So, here is a guy, some say he is a legend, maybe an icon, not sure about that, but he is maybe the most influential song writer of the 20th century. I don't like his singing voice, like nuts and bolts in a tin can, so only a couple of his stuff on my phone. This one I do like, from a movie he wrote the theme song to and had a bit part in some time back.

Bob Dylan....great choice!  I have a couple of his songs on my phone too.  As a young punk back in the 60's I hated his voice.  I changed my tune when Nashville Skyline came out, and then began to go back and listen to his earlier stuff.

Trying to find something similar....this is a Canadian who plays 20 string guitar.  The song is a cover of a Van Morrison tune.

You're welcome...Check out Afghani Raga if you like relaxing mood music.

I've posted up Warren Zevon songs in the past.  Not sure if this was one of them.  I have a fondness for Warren.  He had two careers...the first one was destroyed by drugs, but he cleaned himself up and began writing and touring a second time.  Then cancer struck him and he eventually passed away, but he wrote some amazing songs before he died.  This one is called Hit Somebody.

This is another relaxing song...this time by the Beatles.  George was heavily influenced by the Beatles' trip to India.  This song shows how it influenced the rest of his life.

Jonny Lang was a teenager when he recorded his first album. I picked this one, because I like it, off that album.

Agreed!  Never heard the guy before.  Apparently he's not performing right now because of a voice issue.  Too bad!

Yvonne Elliman has had a long history as a singer, but perhaps her most memorable song was this one from ( The man formerly known as JC ) Christ Superstar.  For me its heart rending.  You cannot help but feel sorry for her character, who wrestles with her many emotions and tries to understand her relationship with ( The man formerly known as JC ).

This is the only song on my phone by this group.  I've posted it in honour of the 73rd birthday of their lead singer.
