I am a solid Beatles fan....I have most of their recordings on my phone.  This is one that they made popular, and I used to think it was one of their compositions, but it's not.  It was one of Chubby Checkers'.

Yesterday I incorrectly gave credit for Twist and Shout to Chubby Checkers.  The original version was recorded by the Top Notes.  It's pretty rick and rolly but different than the version we know.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsDpc-8iR8g

The version copied by the Beatles was done by the Isley Brothers.

I've always liked this song by Don Gibson.  This version is sung by Poco.

This one was written by Jerry Jeff Walker.  This popular cover by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band came out in the 70's.

There's something about falsetto singing that gets to me.  None better than this guy.

Metal, as it's called isn't for everyone. But I will admit to having Black Sabbaths first two albums, and they got a fair amount of play time. Guitarist Tony Iommi is regarded as one of the greats, but is kind of obscure because of the heavy metal tag. He plays left handed, and has the tips of two fingers missing on his right hand. He had to make thimbles to go over the missing finger tips, and couldn't press them onto the frets hard enough. By loosening the strings he was able to push the thimble fingers down enough, but the sound was different. I used to play this 0ne full blast, the old house I was living in would vibrate, and the neighbors would come knocking "turn that crap down". This one is called NIB.

I was never able to get into Black Sabbath.  Not sure why....they played good music.  Maybe it was the story about Ozzie eating the head off a bat.

This guy had a huge influence on rock music.  Most bands from the 70's to today have incorporated this style into at least one of their songs, if not more.

Carlos Santana playing Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock. Drummer Mike Shrieve is the standout here IMO:

I don't remember listening to Santana before Woodstock.  But after.....EVERYONE listened to Santana.  He's still performing I thiink.

This song brings two giant female singers together.  It's a terribly sexist tune, but right for it's time I guess.

I don't remember Santana before Woodstock either. I reckon everyone had to have "Abraxas" in their album collection. Joe Cocker, Sly Stone and 10 years after also were new to me at that time. Liked the vid of Dusty and Martha, two great female voices.

I've mentioned before that I enjoy harmonies.  This group was really good at it.  Maybe not this song so much though.  Listen to the piano in it.  I've never played piano but I think I could play this song.
