Moody Blues were popular in the 1960's and early 1970's.  Denny Lane was their lead vocalist, and he sings on this song, which I think he also wrote.

That's a classic song. I learned something today about Denny Lane. I remember him as the guitar lead/vocal backup for Paul McCartney during Wings.

Another orchestral classic with later Moody Blues, this one at Royal Albert Hall in London, with Royal London Philharmonic backing, there's just something about 30 violins back a chorus,,,,,,a nice bit of live noise:

Yes, he played with Wings and sang that song in concerts.

If you like organ in your songs you'll enjoy this one by Three Dog Night from the early 1970's.

Mark Knopfler is probably my favourite rock guitarist.  And Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris, All The Roadrunning is probably one of my favourite albums.

Here’s a live cut:

I've always admired Eric Clapton as a guitarist.  (Also as a singer.)  He played on George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", one of my top 5 Beatles tunes.  Ry Cooder is probably my second favourite.  Joe Walsh maybe #3.  (Listen to the guitar duo with Bernie Leadon in the latter part of Hotel California.)  I think all the great guitar players have the same thing in common...they know when to play and when not to play.  The space between the notes is often more important than the notes themselves.  George was a master at that aspect.  Eric, of course as well.

There are a lot of covers of this song.  Here is the Beatles version with George singing and Eric playing.

Doug and the Slugs did a lot of bar tours in the late seventies, saw them in Edmonton, I was dancing with some sweetie three feet from Mr. Bennett.   Great evening, lots of fun.

I was always a George Jones fan for country music.  His songs were true country.  A few years ago he presented an award to Alan Jackson, calling Alan the only remaining true country singer.  I have a few of his songs on my iphone.  This is one of them.

There's plenty of good country out there, just ignore the "bro country" that gets played on JR FM.
