Yesterday we had a crisis with one of our aging doggies.  He is 19 yrs old and is blind from cataracts as well as deaf.  We carry him outside to do his business and push him around Chase in a stroller to get him some fresh air and to smell the dog pee on nearby posts.  He is not long for this world, and yesterday we thought he was heading out, so we rushed him to the vet in Valleyview for a medical assessment.  Turns out he was OK after a $500 diagnosis, so we returned home with him.  But he seems to be aware that things have changed because he no longer wants to be in his crate overnight and he really wants to be touching one of us at all times.  Tommy has been great company for the last 15 years.  He was a rescue from a garbage dump in LA that somehow wound up in a Calgary shelter.

Anyway, it brings to mind what this wrriter thought of his dog back in the day.

Remember back in the day there were ice cream wagons that sold dixie cups for a dime?  You got a flat wooden spoon with the ice cream and it was a great treat on a hot summer afternoon.

This song starts off sounding a bit Spanish to me.  I was never a fan of the band but have come to appreciate this song.

I went to Kamloops yesterday lookin for an M14 tap and die to fix the threads on my GW front axle.  The thread is internal, held in place with a bolt on the end after it goes through the wheel.  I looked in Princes Auto, Can Tire and Home Depot without success.  I have a spare so it won't hold me back from riding but I was hoping and wishing to fix the one that is now my spare.  Brings to mind this song from 1964.

I took the Goldwing out yesterday for a highway spin.  It wasn't far, but it felt good.  Temperature was 15 deg so not warm but not cold.  Made me think of this song.

Note...I've never tried to smoke a ciggie while riding down the highway.

Happy Birthday to Deep Purple Band member Richie Blackmore of Deep Purple, April 14, 1945.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rfirxs_NUcE    Smoke on the Water =- Live.

I've got a unique connection with Deep Purple, perhaps fleeting.
Back in late 1986, myself and my sister rented a house 3 acre estate from our friends parents for 2 months on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. We brought many friends and family for 1-2-3 week stints to hang out in the tropical paradise. We ultimately stayed for free.
Anyways, it turns out our neighbour was Beetles Producer,  George Martin's recording studio. By natural curiosity, superstar performers interacted with us, truly the only white people on the island other than themselves. We would be invited to join them at the famous pub type location in the capital town, Plymouth, called "The Plantation". Boy George, The Police, and Deep Purple all had recording times booked at the studio while we were there. The boys at Deep Purple were mischievous lads! ,,,,,, the time we all found 'interesting' at The Plantation, when one of my sisters girlfriends and one Richie Blackmore entered the single stall washroom for 15+minutes,,,,,,,only to exit with Richie wearing her undergarments and top, and she wearing his clothes, I remember my dad was shocked!!!  Later they invited us, and a bunch of Royal Navy lads off the visiting HMS Achilles to the studio, where we were wined and dined, and given a private 1/2 hr session live in the studio. Of course my request of Smoke on the water was 15 minutes long!!!!

Temperatures are slowly rising here in Chase.  Supposed to hit 18 deg today.  I was thinking of a ride to Dreamcycle for pie but they are closed on Tuesdays so will have to wait til tomorrow and dream about their marvellous cream pies.  This song will get me into the mood.

Yesterday Sweetums learned that her biking/skiing friend Bridget was one of the two people killed in a head on crash near Tete Jaune on Monday.  She was in the back of a car with 4 people that was run over by a semi whose driver had fallen asleep.  It really drives home the fragility of our lives...one day we're here and the next day we're only memories.

I've always liked this song about loss.
