Here is a fairly recent song by The Weekend.  I don't normally listen to this kind of music because it's too synthetic for my taste.  But what's interesting here isn't the song as it was originally produced.  It's the cover by Teybey, done in a completely different style.

Here is the original.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHI8X4OXluQ

Here is the Teybey version.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pB07Lr5M-Q

April 1st, 1968, Mason Williams released the single "Classical Gas". It reached #1 on Billboard 100, #1 on the US Easy Listening Charts, both for 3+ weeks, and as he was the head writer for The Smother Brothers Show, it became the theme for the remainder of the Show.
It won 3 Grammy Awards, and in 1998, it was awarded the BMI Citation of Achievement recognizing the track as the all-time #1 instrumental composition for radio airplay,.

This is a popular song from the 1960's.  I remember the group appearing on Ed Sullivan.

It's the time of the year when snow is gone but nothing is green.  It gives me the urge to start cleaning and getting rid of stuff.  That's what this song is about.

He died 30 years ago today.  He was considered the most innovative rock musician at that time.  This song is a cover by 2 Cellos, but I've included the original version as well.

I didn't know that Prism was Canadian.  Reminds me of a song by this group.

This song came out in the mid 60's and made a re-run in the late 70's.  I like the original version best.  Here it is.

I really liked this artist and this song when it first came out around 1970.  It seems to fit today quite well too.

Well the eclipse is over and every one seemed wowed by it.  I didn't get too excited, probably because I spent years working underground so I know what ink black darkness is really like.  But here is another song for those who want a final look at the eclipse.

This guy was a heck of a singer, with great range and a silky smooth voice.  He had a string of hits starting in the 60's and ending with his death in the '90's.  This is one of them.  He didn't write it but he was the first person to record it.

On this date in 1978, GERRY RAFFERTY released the single BAKER STREET in the U.S. (Apr 10, 1978)

Arguably the most sentimental of all the late Scottish musician's songs, BAKER STREET is about a man who dreams of owning a house and living away from his neighborhood, but he is a drunk, and cannot achieve that goal. He drinks to forget what he doesn't have, and never realizes he's a rolling stone with no direction.

The song was a hit when it was released in 1978. It reached No. 1 on the Cash Box chart and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it stayed for six weeks. The song was popular in several other countries as well, including Canada, Australia, and South Africa. Rafferty was awarded the 1978 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for his work on "Baker Street." The song is well-known for its saxophone riff.

The song was named after Baker Street in London and was included on Rafferty's second solo album, City to City. Rafferty wrote the song during a period when he was dealing with legal problems surrounding the break-up of his old band, Stealers Wheel. Rafferty spent a lot of time traveling between his home in Paisley and London for meetings with lawyers, and he often stayed at a friend's flat on Baker Street. The resolution of Rafferty's legal problems inspired the lyrics in the last verse of the song:

"When you wake up it's a new morning
The sun is shining, it's a new morning
You're going, you're going home."

"Baker Street" was recorded at Chipping Norton Studios in Oxfordshire during the sessions for City to City. The album was co-produced by Rafferty and Hugh Murphy. In addition to a guitar solo played by Hugh Burns, the song featured a saxophone riff played by Raphael Ravenscroft between the verses. There is some disagreement about who wrote the saxophone part, but Rafferty claimed that he wrote it with the intention that it be sung. However, the demo of "Baker Street" included on the 2011 reissue of City to City features the saxophone part played on electric guitar by Rafferty.

The saxophone part of the song led to a resurgence in the popularity of saxophones in mainstream pop music and advertising. There are several urban legends surrounding the song and the saxophone riff. One story claims that Ravenscroft received no payment for the song, while another claims that British radio and television presenter Bob Holness played the saxophone on the recording. Both of these stories have been debunked.

This band was very popular in the 70's.  Most of their music had a dreamy quality to it but this song really rocks.
