I don't know why but I woke up listening to this song in my mind.  It's from the early 50's and was originally performed by a bunch of prisoners, but covered and made popular by this guy.

   On this date, August 31, 1974, Gordon Lightfoot released "Carefree Highway", entering the Billboard 100 at #88, soon reaching #10.

 As Lightfoot himself recounted, he first spotted the sign for Arizona State Route 74, also known as Carefree Highway, while driving through north Phoenix years earlier. Something about the name struck a chord, and he jotted it down as a possible song title before tucking the scrap of paper away in his suitcase. That scrap of paper languished there for months before Lightfoot retrieved it and made “Carefree Highway” the title and central theme of one of his most iconic singles.

   August 31, 1974, Carol King wrote, performed, and released 'Jazzman', which quickly reached #2 on the Billboard 100 and a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal.
