This song has had a lot of covers, including Elvis.  I like these ones.  The first is the original version.  The second one has some marvellous harmonica.

This song was written and recorded by Joe South, but became popular when it was released by Billy Joe Royal.  It's a classic story of a young man in love with the daughter of a rich and powerful family.  I've included three versions here.  The first is Joe South.  The second is the more familiar version by Billy Joe Royal and the last one is one that I like by Ry Cooder.

This is another song by Don Gibson.  He didn't write it but he sang a great rendition.  I've also included another cover by Poco that I really like.  I think it's the best of all the ones I've heeard because the emotion jumps out at you.

These two musicians seemed to compete for "How Crazy can We Be" (from back in the day):
Jerry Lee Lewis

Little Richard

The make up of the audience versus the performers reminded me of how far culture has evolved from the 50's.

Those are some great old songs!  Two nights ago I watched "Down and Out in Beverly Hills".  Little Richard was in it.

This country singer was big back in the day.  He unfortunately had a stroke that stopped him from singing.  One wonders how many more hits he would have had.

Speaking of old time country singers....this guy was around for a few years but tragically died in a car crash.  This was one of his first big hits.

This song is from a '70's cult movie.  It's called Time Warp.  We watch the show at least once per year.

This is a great song that I've always thought was composed by the Beatles.  But it wasn't.  It was originally done years earlier by Barratt Strong.

This is an interesting version by The Flying Lizards.

The opening and recurring bass riff in this song sets up everything that follows.

Playing for Change has musicians from around the world syncing up to cover some classic songs.  Here is a cover of Robert Johnson's Walking Blues:

Back in the early '70's I discovered this band with their amazing lead guitarist.  He's still going strong today.

Spent lots of time with the Eagle too. I saw an interview where he said he was basically drunk for almost 20 years. Finally cleaned up now.
