Had a pleasant surprise today.
I replaced the rear tire on Twistedwife's Honda Shadow and I'll be gone to the Guzzi rally for five days so I took her bike for a shakedown ride to scrub in the tire and be sure that everything is ok if she wants to go for a ride while I'm away.
I only rode the Shadow briefly when we bought it and a couple short hops after that. Tonight I was out for about an hour.
For a cruiser, it's pretty damn nice. It's nimble, quick enough and the clutch is very light.
Overall, I'm pretty impressed. If I wanted a decent bike for commuting, one of these would be on my short list.

I have all my decals/vin's made by Brian at BDesigns out of Ontario...he is the best, I've given him different samples to work from and his attention to detail is amazing...I've seen other vin decals reproduced but they are not accurate for fraud reasons I'm sure, Brian requires proof of ownership before reproducing them...he restored the mirrors for my CBX, they were gouged up and faded and now they look new...

I replaced the external shifting plates on the runner XL250,while Paulh did my kitchen backsplash. Bike shifts very nicely, now. Masons clean-up crew had to scramble to catch up to Pauls progress......looks terrific.

Another good source for restoration!
Last night I acquired another MK2 head and spent the evening checking all the bolt holes (all are good) and cleaning the carbon off the combustion chambers. I don't know what the last guy was doing but the carbon was built up to about 3 mm in the head chambers. That stuff is hard to remove too. I have Kleenflo combustion chamber cleaner and it was almost useless against this much carbon. I'm thinking about taking it to Vapourblast for a good cleaning and then rebuild it.

Well, the kitchen reno is rapidly approaching the finish.......today, Paul grouted, while I got spark, and polished the tile...a bit of moulding left, and spots of paint, and that's about it.....
.......I'll have more time for bike puttering.....

Okay. Are you going to tell us how you got spark? I mean ... the kitchen is great and all, but inquiring minds want to know.

Ok, first, despite everything I read online (and, of course you can believe things you read online), the ignition had to be on. Various tests had been made with ignition both on and off, but no difference was noted......at those times.....
Seriously, nothing different was done to elicit fire in the sky, aside from chicken bones on the floor, tea leaves aplenty, and guru Paul sitting and gazing morosely at the points.......I'm leaning toward poor ground, and multiple unplugging and replugging cleaned the contacts on the wiring....plus, the stator is currently installed commando (no gasket), which may be helping the ground situation.
Now to actually get it back together enough to make exhaust noises.

Yes, Paul did prove to me that I was wrong, and so were the online advisers......actually, the key to solving this is having someone knowledgable about bikes, as Paul is, giving a fresh eye and brain to the problem.......thanks man.....oh, Betty loves the grouted tile.......
