Chris they told me they have lots of extra room there at their new place, maybe we could bring a couple of our project bikes over there and hang around all summer and work on them. Mike could supply the beer and coke..... after all we would be guests wouldn't we?

Nice house!
Yesterday I finished up a head installation on my B4. First time ever for me...the bike fired up right away and that pesky backfiring problem seems to be gone. Now I need to insure the beast and take if for a ride or two before checking my handiwork to see if everything is still snug, and that valve clearances are within spec.

I'll post some when I get the tank and seat back on. Tonight I tried to synch the carbs. I could hardly get any pressure on the gauges. Tomorrow the valve cover comes off again to see how things look and to check the torque on the cam chain guide.

Sounds like either a vacuum possibly or your bench synch was a fair bit off??

I didn't do a bench synch. I had properly synched them before I took the head off. Vacum was around 15 cm at that time. I figured I would re-synch because I changed out quite a few shims. Clearances went from minimum (0.05 mm range) to maximum (0.15 mm range) with the new shims. But now I can't seem to get any vacum.
Original plan was to insure the bike and ride it for a day or two before taking the valve cover off and checking the clearances. But I've run the bike for about a half hour at idle, so any change in the clearances should be pretty much over. I had ordered a bunch of shims from Z1E and I expect them to arrive within the next week so I will probably wait until then to check clearances. Meanwhile I'll check my carb boots to ensure the vacum ports are clean. The gauges are fine....only used twice!
