Fixed the ignition problem on the wife's scooter today.
Doorknobs at the dealership couldn't replicate the misfire, so they tried changing the fuel, spark plug, fuel filter, etc and wasted a few hours futzing with it.
My repeated statements of "Every china scooter forum on the internet says the intermittent misfire is a problem with the CDI, why don't you just swap it out and see if it fixes the problem, I'll even pay for the part" went completely unheeded.
Took the bike back, swapped in a new CDI from Amazon and the problem is gone.
I'm getting really tired of being right all the time.
They wasted more $$$ in labour hours dicking around than the CDI cost.
Normally, I wouldn't bother going to a dealer for service but the stupid thing came with a warranty so I figured I might as well use it.
So, since I was ordering bits from Amazon, I also ordered some go fast bits for the scoot as well.
Once the ignition problem was fixed, the bigger carburetor went on, it holds 65 kmh on level ground now!

Since I went back to stock exhaust on the 81 1100 I put the V&H back on the 83 1100....I liked the sound of the black exhaust but I really didn't like the look.
Plus I have much better clearance with the V&H...did an oil and filter change while I was at it...
And some fun...

Love those big Suzuki Scoots. There is an '82 or 3 sitting in a friends garage here in Kamloops. He bought it new and rode it for many years. It's in very nice shape, but has been sitting for a lot of years, even before I moved here and found out about it back in '07. Much as I have tried, cajoled, begged, threatened and cried, he refuses to sell it to me. Says "one day I'll get it back on the road, maybe when I retire". He's been retired for about 3 years now, and the bike is still under it's cover. Bloody shame.

Well Ron you never know. Remember when I first looked at your old 81 the owner didn't want to sell it either but then he bought another bike and something had to go. Thanks to Cliff who gave me a heads up that he was thinking of selling. And of course to you who originally gave me the heads up about the bike.
There really seems to be a lot of networking that takes place in securing these old bikes.

I feel like a marriage broker for bikes, as every year I find someone 'wanting' and someone else 'thinking of selling'. Right now I have a guy at work who has a lovely little original GS-550"T" in mint condition. It only has about 25K and is on the collector plate. (See photo) For the last several years he has mused about 'maybe selling it' since he didn't even ride it last year, and hardley at all since he bought it. Hell, I've even 'thought' about selling my 1980 GS-1000G since I've had it all these years and am finding maintaining/insuring four machines a stretch for my semi-retired limited income. Eventually I will have to cull the herd. Networking is a very valuable resource, especially for the older machines.

And more. Had to use another tank because it sealed around the fuel tap better.

Replaced my machined aluminum Tarozzi rearsets with some nice rubber Tarozzi rearsets
I'm liking them way better.

Swapped out bars on my 83 1100 today. I swapped the original bars a couple of years ago but was never happy with the bars...so I ordered some new bars that are more Euro I guess...I took measurements off my other bikes that I was happy with...
Oh yeah..and I took off the fairing...much better...imo..
