Nope.
Two completely different bikes for two completely different purposes.
Very happy with both.
Couldn't have summed it up better.
Well done on the 850. I very much love Moto Guzzis. More character than any other machine I've ever owned, and that says a lot whilst owning big English twins.
So, you gonna keep that color, or go back to original?

I was thinking of a full restoration when I looked at the pics that Gord sent me but when I saw the bike in person, it was better than I expected.
The paint on the frame is in pretty decent shape and I've found that, most of the time, nothing holds up better than what the factory supplied
It's in good enough shape that the plan is to clean up what I've got, replace the wiring harness, fix some of the rough bits, re-paint it in the proper red-and-black scheme and keep it as a 850 LeMans 1 clone.
From what I've seen, changing a LM2 back into a LM1 doesn't really affect the value and if I want to change it back, I can still get everything to do that.
I'm going to ride it and fix as necessary.

I have ridden that very Guzzi many times. Pulled the ton on it on Mable Lake Road only 10 months ago.

Many many thanks to Stanfromhell for not only sharing his garage but remounting/balancing and the rims to the new spokes yesterday. Here are a couple shots of the spoke artist and the finished wheels, just waiting for some parts from the USA and should have it ready to ride by Sunday if everything goes well.

It's not the truing stand, it's the hand that swings the spoke wrench..

A clean bench is a sign of a sick mind.
Nice work Stan and John. Looking forward to seeing it first hand on Sunday.
Must have gone smoothly, Stan lives close enough that I would have heard the profanity.

What I meant was can or would you ride it 1300 or 2500 miles?
If you can ride as far as Ryan you may not need a big bike..
I think I could .
You guys crack me up.
18 days, 7300km with one 740km day, camping, on a cbr600 with a fly screen.
I am old, fat, and ugly.
Henry, I am quite sure you can do it.
BTW, I recently saw an excellent review on the new(er) Versys 1000. That would be a serious contender for me if I was looking.

A few weeks ago I realized that my front signal lights on the Z1 were supposed to have ground wires. Mine has none....someone must have removed them at some point, but the signals still worked with only the hot wire. Nevertheless, I decided to restore them to original wiring, so I ordered some new collars from Doremi. Well, today they arrived and I put them on the bike. It makes absolutely no functional difference, but it sure feels good to know they wiring is back to original.

I remember Trevor refering to Suzukis as being the "poor mans motorcycle" but I'm having a little trouble believing that as I work on one of my "poor man motorcycles"...guess I should have paid attention in class before buying this one...

It's like any other hobby.
It can get as out of control as you let it.
