Put new points in my 69 650 triumph .Now it starts right away.Points for you unclassical guys are little spring loaded fellers that spark in time to send a spark to the spark plug. No,I don't want an Boyer ignition.Where's the fun in that? Also finalized a $ 400 on a early eigties xl 250 very complete and very clean and runs good'
If the points are sparking, replace your condenser.
You know what I meant twisted one.But not a lot would

I knew what you meant, I just couldn't help myself.
Side not, for you guys still running points-and-condenser.
I've been getting a lot of bad condensers lately, freshly installed ones from Borg Warner parts. Usually with in a couple months of install, they will fail. I've had to go rescue a couple customers from the side of the road.
It's gotten so bad, I soldered alligator clips to a known good condenser and if a car show up running rough, I just clip the condenser to coil - and ground. If it smooths out, time for a new one.
I think it's because sales volume is so low on them that no-one gives a crap about quality control anymore. They probably all come from offshore.
I've switched to installing nothing but Mallory condensers, part number 400, and it has solved every repeated condenser failure problem.
Not sure if it helps on a bike but it might be worth a shot.

The points I put in were genuine English parts made in Japan

Japan parts should help make that bike more reliable for you.

They're Dutch birds.
A cousin to the German Woodpecker, only less polite.

Yes, my Harley is a motorcycle but in the way that Ford F150's and Kenworth's are both trucks.
