I'm finally going back to my '78 XS400 to tidy up the things I skipped/short-cutted when I built the bike up 4 years ago.

The bike looks good, and I get lots of good comments on it's appearance. It runs well, and is easy to start on the kicker.

All this work described took place this week, rather than "today".

However, the starter never has worked, and I hate to leave things un-rectified. After spending a day checking connections, swapping in a starter I knew worked, swapping solenoids, checking the starter button, I slept on it. Next day, I looked at grounds, and found that there was no ground from the starter button and the handle switch through the handle bars (rubber mounted). Some previous work by a far in the past PO on the kill switch had left no ground for the starter button. I found a NOS switch on ebay, nice and new, shiny....well the rest of the bike will need spiffing to measure up.

 Next, the side-stand had always kinda flopped around when up. I discovered that the mounting bolt was a bit warn, and the frame hole had ovalled. I re-drilled the stand and frame mounting holes to a larger bolt, and drilled a new hole for the spring on the stand, giving a bit of tension. All good, now.

 Now, I need to find some better-looking exhaust pipes...the old ones are a bit dented and scratched up, beyond polishing out. The bike already has some Dunstall-copy reverse-cone mufflers that I'll keep. I'd like to stay with chrome, rather than blacking them. Hmmmmm, I'll find something, eventually.

 Of course, while changing starters, I had to pull the tank and carbs. That's when I discovered that the petcock-rebuild from 4 years ago was temporary......leaking.....found an OEM petcock on line, should have that in a couple of weeks.

Finally installed the braided front brake line, glad I have a collection of new copper washers, I'll re-anneal the old ones, and have more new ones.

Left main seal is still weeping, oh, well, I have a flywheel puller coming, and this seal is doable without yanking engine.

The goal has always been . . . at least after it was plated . . .

To rake the neck ov the XV920 . . . reason:
after lowering the rear by adding a strut to replace the shock . . .
. . . the engine is not level with the ground . . . it has always been my desire to achieve level . . .
even back in the eighties.

Today I took my XV750 parts bike and had a much needed look inside . . .
. . . 9 moths ago I purchased a Cable Inspection Camera to look inside and  . . .
. . . my mind couldn't cypher, or decipher what I was seeing . . .
. . . my need is to do it RIGHT . . . and not just do it like everyone else . . . Ha . . .

The frame for the '81 - '83, XV750, and the XV920 is the same part number, and so the same part.

As it looked before I started cutting . . . OK . . . when I realized I otta take some photos






INSIDE ? ? ? you ask . . . ha ha ha . . . I have never seen a photo ov the inside on the net . . .

. . . and I have looked . . . long and hard . . .
. . . I will not be publishing it publicly . . .

But would be willing to share privately . . .

I have a gen 2 frame that I will be doing the same to.

PS . . .Surgery . . . is what every Doctor lives for . . . to get inside . . . Ha ha

Mervin, that seat is pretty special, ain't it?

That is the stock pan (so that I could retain the hinges and latches), stock foam, even.    The sculpting and cover was done by Dano, on our forum, in West Kelowna.

I get many comments on that....

Hey Doc there's a long thin black strip of rubber out front your place where I locked my rear wheel up the other day. I noticed it last night. The rear Norton brake really bites!

Ah that is almost as funny as the red and black one Radar did on the way to Sturgis..near Butte.
 At about 75ish miles an hour his sleeping bag and jackshirt  got rapidly pulled into the  rear wheel and solidly jammed against the shaftdrive tube of his XS11. It left a strip about 300 plus feet long.. Black then red, then black, then redblack , then black. I did get a pic but cant find it.o his credit, he did keep it quite straight..
 When I came upon the scene they were feverishly trying to pull out the sleeping bag I asked Radar how that felt, he said he nearly dropped his beer and rode out  a good portion of it one handed..  Shocked   Shocked
 Pulling the rest of it out took about a half hour or longer, it was mostly pulling out small pieces with pliers. I was worried he may have cracked his cases, but they survived.
 The sleeping bag was toast but the jackshirt looked like it had been through a shotgun blast, he actually wore it in Sturgis, much to the delight of onlookers..

Installed a staked master link on the 84 Suzuki GS 750E and on the 1993 Suzuki Katana 750 project.

Installed the newly acquired collector plate on the 1984 Suzuki GS 750E. Grin

The Eurotrash is going back together happily.

Suspension rebuild and upgrade is done, busted up turn signals are replaced (no more electrical tape holding lenses on), gouged up rusty pipes are wrapped.

Just waiting on new tires...

Nothing as extensive as some of you gents are doing.......

Installed the newly acquired collector plate on the black 1984 Suzuki GS 750.  My last ride this year was sometime around August 10th.  So yea.......I gots me a bad case of cabin fever already.
