Nothing outrageous going on in my garage this time of year. Conducted valve clearance checks on 850 Commando, RC30 (OMG what a hassle that is), Laverda ( oh what a pleasure that is), XR650, and nothing is out of spec. Factory recall on 1200gs (indicators too close together), rear seal replace, clunk in front suspension found to be loose shock bolt (whoops). New chain and sprockets on XR, upgrade front sprocket to Fritzco wide spline type to look after the XR’s only weak link, it’s lack of a Cush drive system coupled with skinny spline/sprocket meaning quick and expensive wear out of output shaft. Luckily no wear, probably because like most of my bikes, they’ve not spent a lot of time at low engine revs which results in driveline shock especially with singles and twins. . New Heinendau K60 scouts on within a week for prep to the Touratech Rally West this spring. XR’s Only rear subframe strengthening kit so my rear frame can handle the camping stuff. Mosko Moto Ranger pannier kit, set up on Twisted throttle rack system. R100gs, nothing wrong,,,,,ever. Ct70, same.
Steve, I've not heard of the Mosko Moto Ranger pannier kit, what is that.
I just bought a few more Mosko products at the MC show this year, tank bag and tool roll for the Africa Twin.
I have the BC40 Duffle and will buy the BC 35's Panniers next time they have a sale, probably Black Friday. (unless the CAD$ improves in the meantime)

Hi Dave, I’ve probably got the name of the panniers wrong. Maybe it’s Scout or something like that. Handy size, tough as nails stuff. All of Mosko’s stuff is good quality IMO. I bought their tank bag as well,,,I like the idea of having a drinking water bladder in the tank bag rather than carrying it on a back pack. Let the bike carry it instead of the motorcycle operator.

Yes the Scout V3, very nice and 25 liters per side, nice bags for a DR650 or any other 650 dirt bike you may have.

Checked valve clearances on the LTD yesterday. Two were out of spec (on the wide side). I had suitable replacement shims on hand. So now all is good to go for the season. Although I’m thinking of designing and manufacturing (welding by others) a carrying rack for behind the seat.

Ross I been thinking of building sone rack parts, 1/2 round tubing.. maybe a kit form.
So I may be able to bend some tubing soon.
I will use hydraulic tubing.

Hmm. Interesting. I was talking to Nico about it. Reckoned we’d try just using steel flat bar and paint or powdercoat. Have to develop some more motivation first.

My second Z1B is now registered in my name, as of yesterday. No insurance yet, as the weather won't be warm enough until early next week for riding. Hopefully I'll be able to test it out before heading out RVing in May.

It's the one that popped up on the sohc4 forums last year. Had some pitting but Geoff @ Colt Cams took care of that!

Okay as everyone knows down here I have been having some backfiring issues with my Mark111 Commando and I have little to none electrical skills but have tried many suggestions from many of the members here as well as the internet and a call to Old Britts in Seattle. So last night I bit the bullet and ordered a full new Power Arc ignition system that includes the coils, resistor spark plug wires and a four map ignition curve especially for my bike. I did not get a lot of riding on what might be my favorite bike last year so hopefully doing a full installation will solve everything.
Lets see and will keep everyone posted as I am a better installer than a problem fixer with electronic stuff.

Remember the old saying regarding Brit bikes, John.....if it seems to be carb issues, it's likely electric, and electric problems are really carb problems.

Yes Howie and that would mean an investment in the carburetors next week so I have changed everything that backfires.
Lets see how the ignition replacement goes this weekend as the package made it to Sumas today so we can grab it tommorrow.

Well done John. I’ve got ALOT of seat time around the Commando. I have a thought that your issues have been around your ignition system all along. I’ll be interested to hear what kind of coil system you may be moving to. I still like the technical abilities and physical appearance of two 6 volt coils hanging under the fuel tank, albeit high output replicas to the PCP oil
Laden Lucas units. Knock on wood, but I’ve just jumped on my Norton after 5 months under a bedsheet, no lie, 1st kick, sitting in Horseshoe Bay after sitting in rush hour traffic and then 80 mph up to Brittannia and back.
Of course, updated electrics have my stone axe reliable bumblebee currently a garage queen. So
Maybe I’ll shut my yap.
