spending some more time on the DRZ while the weather is too cold to ride.

New steering stem bearings, fresh fork oil, and installation of an Eastern Beaver 3 fuse harness to tidy up things for powering the Montana GPS, Trail Tech Vapor dash and what ever else I might need. I tell you I can't wait to ride it in the dirt again, the bearings taken out were likely the factory ones and lumpy as all get out and the forks were supposed to have 720 mls each but I doubt I drained half that, should be some improvement  Grin

On the 93 Katana 750 - sorry no pics
- repacked front wheel bearings
- front suspension completely came apart and the inside components thoroughly cleaned.  The four fork bushings were in very nice shape.  Installed new fork seals and
filled each fork with the correct amount of fork oil.  20 w was used.
- completely dismantled and cleaned both front brake calipers
- installed new front brake pads (po had different somewhat worn pads in each front caliper)
- removed and cleaned oil cooler (an amazing amount of grime and goop came out of the cooling fins.  I wouldn't have thought cleaning would be needed but went     through the same exercise on the Concours, and also had the same result.  Tons of chit in there.
- removed swing arm and all rear suspension linkages.  All needle bearings were in good shape but needed to be greased up.
- rear brake caliper completely taken apart and cleaned.  Rear pads looked to have been recently replaced so they went back on.
- replaced rear wheel bearings.  Probably would have been ok but they were starting to feel a bit rough.
- pulled front and rear tires off and replaced with a set of Avons.  First time I'll be riding on Avons.

Will be switching out front and rear brake fluid shortly as well.
Digging into the carbs next once I tidy up some loose ends from the work mentioned above.

Much like any previous projects there is a considerable amount of elbow grease in the above work.  Worked performed when time permitted in November and December.  The amount of grime and goop that came out of that bike is astonishing.  It turned 25 years old this year!!

The boxer's coming out the Bimmer for a rebuild and the cb motor is being mated to a new frame. It's almost riding season again!

I changed the front tire on the Hybrid LC.

I picked up a PA engine hoist used for a song. It really make removing wheels on bikes without a centerstand easy and safer than other methods I have used. Even with a centerstand equipped bike it will be nice for holding the front wheel up.

That engine hoist is certainly more flexible and safer than using a chain hoist attached to an I-bolt screwed into a rafter truss.

No room to block on many bikes with low exhaust/expansion chambers.

I considered a portable hoist for my shop but decided to go with an overhead rail instead.

I would have went with a rail too but the ceiling is high and has a 4/12 pitch complicating things.

Jeebuz!!  Don't tell me you have to take your boots off to enter your shop?

I worked on Sweetum's bike today...checked the valve clearance and installed two new tail lights.  I moved them from their usual spot on a Kawi back onto the hand grab.  This gives her more room to throw her saddle bags over the bike without interfering with the tail lights.  Photo below.

Now, that's a good, practical, reversible mod.
