Henry and I were talking one day about all of the opportunities in our area for riding beyond where the pavement ends... So, rather than just talk about it, we promptly went out and picked up a couple dual purpose style bikes. He found a really nice 2009 Kawasaki Versys decked out with some great add-ons for the off pavement stuff. I found a nice little KLR650 that ticked the boxes for me.
Today we decided to take them out for an inaugural run to see how they performed. We went up to Westwold from Falkland and turned off the highway to head up towards Pinaus Lake. There is a Forestry campground up there and we wanted to check it out for future visits. On the way we thought it might be a good idea to head up to a local summit that has some communication towers, it looked like there should be awesome views from there. However, because of recent rainfalls the incredibly lightly travelled road had turned into some kind of horrible gumbo that made motorcycle travel treacherous!
We decided to turn around so I hopped off my KLR to give Henry a hand, after two steps my boots weighed about 8 pounds each, it was like walking Herman Munster style! We pushed Henry's Versys around until it was headed in the right direction.
The snot was slimy and it was 'snot' fun to ride in!
My swingarm seemed to like it though.
It was fun to weave and slither our way back to hard pack and continue on our way. Despite the sliminess we encountered it was a fun way to begin another way to enjoy life on two wheels.
