Hey Trevor.....Is that photo of the Observatory from a place called Gonzales heights or something like that?  Near Victoria?

It's about 10 minutes from my house...it's on wait for it.......Observatory Hill. Lol....

Hey Henry and Bucko..check this out...Plaskett was from Woodstock. Lot of smart guys from there.. Grin

The installation of the telescope was largely the work of celebrated Canadian astronomer John Stanley Plaskett, and the instrument was baptized the “Plaskett Telescope” in his honour. It measured 15 metres long and its mobile parts weighed 42 tonnes.

Plaskett became the first Director of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and helped it establish an international research reputation very early on. In 1922, for example, he discovered a binary star and the larger of the two still holds the record as the most massive known binary star. This celestial body bears the name of “Plaskett’s Star” in his honour.

All the guys with big telescopes come from Woodstock  Wink

Another bit of Trivia.  Thomas Dufferin Pattullo, 22nd Premier of British Columbia, was from Woodstock.  New West's notoriously dangerous (like all things from Woodstock) Pattullo bridge was named after Duff (as well as Prince Rupert's Pattullo Park, Mount Pattullo, the Pattullo Range in North Tweedsmuir Provincial Park, and the Pattullo Glaciers in that range).  I expect they'll be naming a few local BC landmarks after Trevor, Henry, and me soon.

I believe it was Duff who introduced laughing lettuce to the west coast  Grin

Yes, there's even a Pattullo bridge in Woodstock, but nowhere near as notorious as the one in New West.  Smiley
