Nice meet up for coffee this morning, nice (if cool) day for a ride as well. I'll be there with you all soon.

Nice 'new' Katana, Garth, looks to be a great distance bike. Throw some pictures on here for all to see.

Roy, you're right Mr. Peter's Hillman-powered Royal Enfield...it's a real work of art...spectacular. I really hope to see it again, Ive got lots of questions about it's construction and, no doubt, interesting history. We must campaign to get it written up and in a magazine someplace. Can you post the cell phone pics you took, Garth?

I went home and had a grand time in the shop this afternoon.....blasting hubs, lapping valves, wrenching, painting parts.....I impressed myself with my own ambition! Guess I have all you guys to thank, Sunday morning b.s. sessions are a good motivator.

   Peter is a member in high regard at the British Bike club, a great guy, and as you can see, a master of fabrication, welding, and design. He built everything for this machine. He made all the fenders, indicators, primary covers, guage clusters,,,,,he manufactured almost everything.

Oh my freaking lord that is a nicely put together machine! I love this kind of motorcycle with custom fitted engine and all of the thought that goes along with producing such a machine. I someday will have time to produce a hybrid or two of my own I hope. In the meantime I support the idea that this should be written up in one of the mags.

Is Peter considering signing up with BCCMC for all of our fun and games? I would think he would be an excellent contributor to our group madness. I now have another reason to make it down in the near future to meet up with some of the members.

It was a stunned set of slack-jawed faces in the cold coffee shop parking lot yesterday morning (he must get that all the time, priceless to see from his perspective I'm sure) trying to figure out what the Sam Hill was idling towards us, all cool and calm like. Awesome but mysterious. Like a Viking ship emerging from the fog in some long ago fjord!  O.k. that's a bit dramatic but not far off. The overall impact was truly silence inducing. "WHAT the heck is that?" The Royal Enfield decal on the tank didn't really help matters, neither did the radiator shrouds protruding, winged Pegasus like, from either side of the frame. We anxiously waited for the tall, leather clad stranger to key off and dismount. It was like Clint Eastwood (the man with no name) had ridden into town and was going to avenge some past wrongs. Better hide the women, children and small animals and.....sorry, there I go again.

To say this was a treat is an understatement. The gentleman introduced himself as Peter, and this was his custom mount of 35 odd years. After introductions, which assured us we would not be smote by the lone rider, a much closer look at the bike ensued. Happily, he was much more social than Clint and comfortably joined our conversations, answering the onslaught of predictable questions. Amazing bike, and owner. The next thing that caught my eye was the rear fender/taillight housing/rear signal stalk combo....all filleted together as one piece....a truly awesome piece of workmanship. And the fork sliders. And the radiator shrouds. And the triple clamps. And the perfect front fender.....an alloy feast.

Thanks for braving the temperatures and showing us your bike, Peter. I hope to meet you again in the future, I've got lots more questions for you about your bike, and your no doubt interesting history of building and riding it.

I'd say let this be a call to arms in coming months for all the other vintage/classic bikes lurking around out there. The weather is warming, and the days are getting longer now. Come on out for some Sunday morning coffee and camaraderie.

Thanks, I was wondering if anybody would be curious to know. I'm no latin scholar, and certainly nobody has ever accused me of being a gentleman. It's the motto of a famous author I like. I found it inside the cover of one of his books, described in a short bio of him by the publisher. And he's got a little logo to go with it. Apparently he used to sign his books with this saying and sometimes a little doodle too. A coffee owed to whomever posts the's author's name  Wink.

I figured it was a fitting tag, based on the caliber of the bikes I ride these days.....

Well, the latin was not a real problem with 3 years of the stuff (misbegotten catholic upbringing). My first guess was somebody like Terry Pratchett but then I remembered I read it somewhere else in a compilation book or something but could not remember where so I had to look it up. Hmmm really? That was a bit ago; I will not claim the prize as I had to refresh my memory....

i believe i seen that bike at the norton rally in lumby in july 2010. verrrry impressive! i think he siad the motor is from a europeon sports car. i don't recall which. if it wasn't there there was one realy close to that.

   Yes you should. Sunday breakfasts ar the Big 6. In the summer, there's usually 25+ bikes, of every origin and year. It's a rare day when British only bikes are outside.

i found a pic , it was there.

   The engine is out of a Hillman Imp. It's current state of tune and assemblage brings it very close to that of a Coventry Climax, only bigger!

But seriously folks, I did not see it at Lumby but there was a lot of bikes to see and easy to miss some things. Would like to make a weekend in Vancouver and hit the BMOC breakfast too.
