Garth,

Every one is welcome at our Sunday coffee.  You could even bring your mum if you want to. 

Unfortunately my stud extractor only works with studs that are intact.  Sounds like drilling and heely (sp) coiling is your option.

I also host a monthly shop night in my garage (The second Thursday night of the month).  That's this Thursday night the 8th of December.  At today's coffee for show and tell, Rob brought his "Carbtune Pro" synchronizer.  Hopefully we'll try it out on my KZ 1000 this Thursday night and compare with my vacuum gauges.
Shoot for 7:00 PM, 443 Garrett Street, New Westminster, around back in the garage.

It will be festive since we decorated the garage today for a party I'm hosting Wednesday night.

Stan, John, Rob, and I met for weekly coffee this morning.  As always there was great conversation.  There were a couple of really great practical items that came out of it though.  

I mentioned that I was having trouble removing the seal from my Z1 forks.  Stan is THE MAN!!  He suggested making a washer to togggle inside the seal.  Then use it as backing for a makeshift slide hammer.  This I did when I got home using ready rod and some heavy steal spacers I had kicking around.  It worked like a charm!!

The problem I have now is that a previous owner has really scared the inside of the fork with a screw driver while removing the seals.  I am pretty sure it will leak between the seal and the fork.  I'm not sure how to deal with that one.

The second thing that came out of our meeting was that Rob had brought along his Carbtune Pro synchronizer unit.  I had braved the black ice to ride my 77 KZ1000.  We hooked up the synchronizer just to see how it worked.  Seems really nice.  It uses metal rods rather than fluid and the result is quite a smooth reading.  When I get a chance, I'll get Rob to bring it over and we'll use it to synch my carbs and compare with my vacuum gauges.

All in all a great coffee get together.

 I use a sharpened awl or small driil bit to put 2 holes in the metal portion of the seal..180 degrees apart.
 Then thread in a sheetmetal screw till it starts to self-tap and bite.. both holes.
  Use a thin pce of wood or  smooth aluminum shim to protect the fork edge, the pry up the screw with a claw hammer.. opnly a millimeter, then the other.. back and forth till its out..

 easy..

 The gouges.. fix with JB, then after curing, clean it up..

It's tough to keep the get togethers going.  There are usually only four, five, or on occasion, six  of us that show up for coffee on Sundays.  And usually only two or three of us that come out to a shop night once a month.  But even with the small group, I enjoy them immensely.  We all have things to contribute, and Stan and John in particular, have a wealth of knowledge and experience.  The suggestions they have given so some of my quandaries have been spot on.  But I'll persist in posting the coffee and shop meetings until no one at all shows up.  Perhaps over time the core group will grow to the point that prodding people to come out won't be necessary.

Our group will be one less now that Nico has moved to Parksville.  He's been a good friend and riding companion.  I know I'll see him occasionally, but i'll miss him.  Now if I could just get him to sign up for the BCCMC!  I know there must be some members over there that he could hook up with.

I think it's more like the Cranky Old Bast*rds Motorcycle Club (known as C.O.B.s, with the club moto 'Get off my lawn, you lousy kids'). Or Los Lazyboys (recliner silhouette crests emblazoned on the back of hand knitted riding vests). I think my wife would concure (speaking of myself, of course).

Biscotti? What's that, some kinda I-talian motoscooter? Wink I think my cousin had one back in the day....
