How was the Show/Swap?  When I left Tim’s, it was starting to spit and the clouds to the south looked rather ominous so I headed home.  I composed a Craigslist add for the CB750 instead.  We’ll see how it goes. 

I should have gone out to the show.  The weather has been fine.

  I saw the same rain spit, but it kind of went away in abby, was almost warm, and kind of bright horizon. I honestly didn't get to see 1/4 of the stuff for sale for the amount of faces I recognized, hand shaking, back patting, etc, these last 4 years of event banishment from bat flu lockdown. So I cannot actually report whether there was an actual judged show and shine inside this year.
  Clearly there were some lovely machines inside for sale, that I spotted Saturday during move-in ,,,,the Velocette Thruxton was quite lovely. The majority of parts are still Harley Davidson, the show managers' wish to bring in Japanese parts people has not materialized.
  The parking lot for bikes was hard gravel, some of the big bikes were having 'almost' moments. it would be nice if there could be an exception for bikes to park along the fence line in the future for more stable navigation. And I'm quite surprised there was no food truck, maybe I missed a cafeteria inside.
   It will be interesting to see how this location works out. The venue is acceptable, but the variable weather that is noteworthy compared to South Delta or Cloverdale could affect this show's future if there's a rain out or 2, which for sure would hurt front door income to cover rent. I've always thought that Cloverdale was the perfect location, being a near geographic centre of Metro Vancouver.

No rain on the ride in from White Rock after the show we went to Yarrow for coffee there were a few rain drops on the ride home otherwise a nice day for a ride.

As Steve mentioned mainly Harley parts most booths were organized some looked like they had emptied their shed full of rusty junk on the table.  There was only about a dozen bikes on display inside a few nice old brit bikes the rest was nothing too exciting if you went for the show and shine I think you would be disappointed.  I think bumping the show a little later in the year with the probability of better weather would increase the quality and quantity of the bikes that get ridden to the show and possibly end up in the show and shine.  If there's a swap meet next year I will attend and pay the entrance fee to support the show but in my opinion the best of the show is out in the parking lot I spent more time outside than inside.

I hope the weather is good on Sunday so we can discuss at the Fort.

How was the Show/Swap?  

Probably the worst edition of this event for Japanese bike parts.  I saw only one sparse table with any Japanese parts at all in the entire room.  Still fun though - it was great to see many of the lads out for the event.

  I agree with the parking.  It was unacceptable, unless it’s a swap meet for enduro bikes. It could have easily been made better. There was a set up Area for motorcycle specific parking, complete with pylons and the helpful traffic control of GVMC member volunteers, towards the mc parking, which was entirely gravel, yet easily achieved set up for asphalt parking did not happen. I saw 4-5 full dress rigs nearly fall over directly because of gravel traction issues with front wheel braking.

One table with Japanese, perhaps 6 with British and rest was Harley. Some nice bikes about, loved the Ariel Arrow, and the ‘34 BSA C11 was tremendous but I like anything British and the Velocettes were Perfect.
Lots of folks to meet and greet with and food truck or two would have been a good alternative to the flea market concession. I will go again.

Since we were discussing electric vehicles this morning.


Comments from State Troopers

From an anonymous State Trooper in Wisconsin.

I’m not a fan of all electric vehicles. Too many variables affecting battery consumption. Definitely not suited for cold climates. The following experience just cements my distaste for EV’s, especially Tesla.

I get sent to a motorist assist the other day, at the start of our snow storm. Tesla on the side of the interstate, dead battery. So I arrive on scene and the occupants have the right-front door open. They tell me that they can’t open any other doors, because the battery is dead. Sure enough. Can’t open the doors from inside or outside.
The driver also can’t get her license out of the glove box where she put it during their trip. Because the glovebox opens electronically… and the battery is dead. You actually have to use the computer in the center of the dash to open the glovebox.
They said they had 10% battery left, should’ve been plenty to get from that location to the charging station nearby. Then all of a sudden the whole car shut off and they coasted to the shoulder.
So now I have to find them a tow. No one wants to tow EV’s. Finally found one company to do it. 8 mile trip to the charging station in Tomah. $1,000! Normal vehicle on the flatbed would’ve been $150.
So now we’re at the Tesla superchargers. Guess what. Can’t open the f’n charging port because the battery is dead!!! The ports open, you guessed it, electronically!!!

And we also can’t open the doors now (had to close the one open door when it was loaded onto the wrecker). The owners manual is in the on board computer, but the battery is dead.
I got the occupants to a store where they’d be warm while calling the rental company to figure out how to charge this POS, so I’m not sure of the outcome.
I had to leave for a crash report.
I’ll stick with my dinosaur burner.
