Opps, just realized it's Mothers day on Sunday, so no gathering at my place this week.
Hopefully someone else can host.
Apologies for the late notice.
David.

June mentioned that David and said you might not have realized is was mothers day to your wife. All is good and we will grab my brother and sister in law and head somewhere to the valley for sandwiches likely Glen Valley again as that seems to work.
Thanks for the offer and much appreciated.

First, thanks very much to Malcom for hosting coffee last week.
It’s unfortunate that the weather forced us inside. In hindsight, I wish I hadn’t stayed. I feel there were too many of in too confined a space. Seems no harm done, we were fortunate. I’ll try not to stay in a situation like that again. We’re all going to die, I understand that. But I’d prefer not from COVID19, and not next week or next month. And I’d rather not pass it on to anyone else should I be infected.
So to that end, I’ll attend coffee only if there’s ample room. Preferably outdoors.
As an aside, Roy and I went out for a ride today up to Chilliwack Lake. Didn’t quite get there. The road was blocked and guarded a couple of kilometres from the lake. Found a really nice spot though for lunch next to the Chilliwack River. On our way back we rode through Ft. Langley. We rode past the Derby Reach day use/campground. It was freaking packed. And there was NO physical distancing that I could see.
Glen Valley would probably be a good choice. Lots of room there in the parking lot. No picnic tables in the grassy space, it would be wise to bring something to sit on.
Not sure what we’re doing Sunday for Mother’s Day. My mom is in Lethbridge, Sandy’s Mom is in Duncan. My youngest son is in Vernon. We may go to do a distancing visit for supper at my oldest son in Port Coquitlam. So pending venue, I might be in for coffee.

Why dont we give Glen Valley a shot, there are tables by the river and plenty of distancing for parking and stuff. Us old fellers might have to take a run in the bush as I dont believe the washrooms are open any longer. Can we do it later in the day say 1200 or 1300 on Sunday? Everyone could bring their own sandwiches and a beverage, it seems to be a safe spot from our last trip.
My Mom is bailing on me Sunday so I will try and grab my brother and his wife for a ride out there if there is any interest.

There’s two areas at Glen Valley.
One is on 272nd St. before you turn onto 91st Ave. Huge parking lot, grassy area, no tables. Roy and I were there today, river was up to the concrete steps, no beach. There’S portapotties, but we didn’t check if they were locked.
Further along on 91st Ave is another area, can’t remember the name. It’s nice, lots of room, tables, toilets may well be locked, we didn’t go that far today, turned back south then around Sumas Mt. and on to Chilliwack Lake, 300kms.

I think if we wait until later, there will be lots of people there. Distancing could be problematic.

All along the road to Chilliwack Lake, almost ALL of the camping spots were taken. Tomorrow it will be a Zoo.

Ross the one I am thinking about is the bottom of 272nd however there was tables there two weeks ago along the river and we saddled around one of them for a picnic. There is another one off the water there with an old house on it but that is not the one I am thinking. The one on the river is the one that we like to stop at.
Should I set a time?

Yup. That’s where we were today. No tables. If there were any down by the river, they’re under water now.

My Wuhan flu imposed unemployment gave me the opportunity to go for a picnic of sorts last Tuesday with a buddy needing a break from 3 1/2 week non stop RN service. We rode to Fort Langley, stopped to take out fantastic lunch at Blacksmith Bakery, at Mavis and Church, which has set up a decent order/takeout system. We then loaded up and rode a short distance to Glen Valley Bar [Poplar Bar], located at the corner of River Road, and Lefuvere Road, which does have an open, multiple gender capable operational lavatory, with hand sanitizer inside. We took one of the two visible concrete deck tables. Being a Tuesday, we were both surprised how many people there were. Couples on personal fold out deck chairs, at least 8 motorcyclists in 3 separate groups occupying the benches facing the river. It was a great place to take in the sunshine, watch the Fraser River transport the winter's toil from 500 miles north, in utter silence except for the Lougheed Hwy on the other side of the river.
I have no doubt that this Sunday anytime after 10am this location will be a very popular place for people wanting to get away from it all only to find mass humanity trying to do the same. Heck, this Friday 11am, there was a call from the White Rock mayor to go away from his municipality and beaches, such was the crowd and traffic trying to escape the 2 months inside 4 walls for warmth and sunshine. I have no illusions that, in light of there being NO opportunity for family to go for breakfast/lunch/church/mothers day gathering this Sunday, families will be desperate for family gathering in majestic places such as Poplar Bar for respite.
I have no fears for my own safety with my germophobic tendencies and practices going back 20+ years working around the Hastings and Main lovely neighbourhood of zombie land. But I certainly understand the fears of those who find this new society structure way, to want to avoid close proximity. As such, I will choose my interactions carefully and with respect to others. And I'll pass on this particular Sunday's gathering because I predict a mass of humanity to be everywhere other than their house. See you lads next time.

Yes Chilliwack lake closed so everyone jammed in along the river crapping in the woods, that can't be healthy either.

Roy, even with the Chilliwack Lake campground open, it’s always like that along that road. Too few legal spots that are way too expensive.

Ross, I stand corrected you and Roy were at the first site on the bottom of 272nd by the railroad. If you go down to the river from there and turn right for a block or two there is a site with tables and plenty of room. June and I will try and leave here to arrive there at 100pm as we will take the back roads up Dewdney Trunk then cross over at Mission. Feel free to join and I am sure we can all keep our distance there.

Poplar Bar (Glen Valley Regional Park). I suspect it'll be busy tomorrow.
