Few things, first , I thought no metal allowed in there ?
Second, wont be good for shielded bearings.
Third, can you wrap with saran or ? To keep moisture off ?

we used to heat bearings in hot oil.

Years ago they use to put a light bulb in a glass of water,put it in a microwave run it and if the bulb lite the microwave was working properly.

Yes, it's safe.
The water in the rag absorbs the microwave energy before it gets to the bearing.
Microwave heats the water, water conducts heat to the bearing.
