I'm not a fan of ethanol for a lot of reasons, primarily because of what it does to my carburetors. It's considered a low carbon alternative because growing the feedstock takes up carbon and burning the fuel releases it. But a lot of carbon is used to grow the feedstock, harvest it and convert it to ethanol, so it's not as environmentally friendly as some people would claim. That said, I'm not sure you're right about that first claim Steve. For one thing, S America doesn't use corn to make ethanol. They use sugar cane, so how does that influence the price of corn flour? Also, ethanol can be produced more cheaply than gasoline in S America, so the cost savings are passed on to motorists when they buy fuel. (Brazil uses E25 in their vehicles and has many models capable of running on E100.) I would guess a strong US dollar would have more influence over the price of just about anything worldwide because it's the world's reserve currency.
We don't grow sugar cane in North America.

Steve, if you take time to understand what I wrote you will realize that I never said anything about sugar cane in North America. I said that it's the feedstock for ethanol in SOUTH America. In other words, SOUTH American corn production isn't affected by ethanol production, which uses only 1% of arable land. You may be interested to know that sugar cane is 3 to 7 times more productive in ethanol production than corn. That's one of the reasons why ethanol is cheaper than gas in Brazil.

All I'm trying to say is,,,,,,sigh,,,,,,corn based starch should be used as a food rather than as a fuel for vehicles.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_ethanol
Back to octane ratings versus fuel economy. No, you don't get better fuel mileage using higher octane. And yes, I will laugh at you if you claim such things. And yes, ethanol 'enriched' fuel avoidance will be good for your carbureted motorcycle, and ESPECIALLY for your plastic/nylon fuel tank, especially an ACERBIS sourced fuel tank.

Amazing! Proof that a fall won't hurt too badly as long as there is nothing in the way.

Ryan @ Fortnine analyzes marketing typecasting, engine designs, and hp versus torque. If you love new Harleys, a word of caution.

Only Harleys and Indians?
Guess they saw what happened when NASCAR let Toyota play in their sandbox.
