That's pretty much what happened to me when a car hit me on my bicycle a week or so ago.  Lucky....no broken bones.

A few weeks ago I collided with a vehicle while riding my bicycle.  During the fall the back of my head (bike helmet actually) struck the pavement, breaking the helmet but saving my head.  I came away with two thoughts.  One was how vulnerable we are on bicycles or motorcycles while riding.  The second was that helmets save lives.
