If you can handle this guys annoying voice, it's worth watching. His whole youtube channel is testing different oils. The reason I'm putting this video up, is he's testing Shell Rotella T4 15w-40 if used in a direct injection gasoline engine. His 'issue' is the high amount of detergents which deal with the inherent soot in a diesel, in particular the agent, Calcium, which he says can cause low engine speed preignition. His testing shows that Shell's entire Rotells range has double the Calcium than all the other diesel spec oils.

Ok.  So what does that mean for older bikes with low (8.5:1) compression like my Kawasakis and my CB750?   Or my Tracer900 with throttle body fuel injection and 10.5:1 compression?

15/16ths of the world uses the metric system.

The biggest problem that DI engines have is the blowby gasses coke up the back side of the intake valves.

Non-direct injected engines avoid this problem because fuel is being sprayed on the valve which washes the oil film away.

VW's solution was extra injectors to add a bit of fuel before the valve to wash the oil off.

Everyone else wants you to pull the intake and walnut-blast the backs of the valves.

Every other manufacturer says f-u because by the time it's a problem, the engine is out of warranty.

The easy fix is to install a catch can in the breather system to separate the oil vapours from the blowby air stream (what I've done on the 6.2 in my truck).

Can you see any issues that T4 would have on my hexhead BMW?

I used it in my oil head 1998 R1100S. Also use it in our VFR 750 and VFR 800. Just keep kms under 5000 between changes.
