British Columbia/ICBC New "Tagless" Vehicle Plates

  I haven't actually started a new vehicle insurance package since the new ICBC move to vehicle plates 'without expiry tags'. There's been comments of "much easier", to took the paint right off my old plate".   I've got a question. How is a motor patrol officer from a jurisdiction other than British Columbia going to react when they see a plate without expiry tags? Surely, these expiry stickers are universal in North America, heck, even Mexico. How is a Washington State Patrol sheriff going to react seeing a naked plate? I hope ICBC has a 1-800 hotline to field calls roadside to confirm insurance coverage to motor officers.

I recently did my Goldwing.  No new tags. 

It's a good question and I can only assume ICBC had checked with other MV departments before making the change.

i was told that the cops scan your plate and they get an instant reply whether it it good or not.

I asked Harbord this question when I renewed one of mine recently and was told that all Canadian jurisdictions have been notified... but no mention of the USA or other countries. I guess it'll be a matter of getting pulled over and just producing your documents like any other roadside meeting with law enforcement... with more getting pulled over for having no sticker.

I have two issues with the sticker-less plates... one is that our needlessly oversized bike plates look even more gargantuan without the stickers... the other is that as a motorcycle tech, I use the plate sticker to determine if a bike on my bench has been off the road for a while and needs extra attention.

  I tried to take the old expired stickers off this morning, with wd-40 and a plastic scraper from work. All it did was take the paint off the metal, so gave up.
