Title: Re: Point to Point Parcel closing Post by: Steve G. on March 26, 2025, 08:11:05 PM Retirement?? I know that Pt. Roberts never recovered from the 2 yr covid shutdown. My place in Sumas. Package Express did nothing during that time . Title: Re: Point to Point Parcel closing Post by: Galactica on March 26, 2025, 09:51:29 PM Zero business in Point Roberts since Trump took power. The headline is “completely destroyed by Tariff war”. No parcel business, no gas sales, no convenience store sales. If this goes on much longer, there will not be a single business left in Point Roberts.
Title: Re: Point to Point Parcel closing Post by: Steve G. on March 27, 2025, 06:46:31 AM Not at all denying the cross border damage of the current tariff war. But it should be noted that unlike the absolute complete lockdown of the border for 19 straight months, the current status at the border is that it is fully open as usual. The current economic hardship of Pt. Roberts businesses is a direct result of Canadians deciding not to spend dollars down there for personal , mostly emotionally driven reasons, and by economic realities of our faltering Cdn dollars value, which is down 9% from Covid times.
I certainly understand these reasons, and we all make decisions for various reasons. For the last 40+ years I have made the personal decision to not visit as a tourist, communist, or Islamic countries, for the lack of freedom, and oppression those systems place on their citizens. A decision many have called insane, which I’m ok with. Title: Re: Point to Point Parcel closing Post by: Galactica on March 27, 2025, 07:28:31 AM I reckon the businesses in Point Roberts, if not thriving, were getting by. The Canadian dollar has been low for a long time and those businesses survived. Now, with the political climate, the unknown of extra charges on goods going either way across the border, and the unknown of how you’ll be treated by either border guards, has caused Canadians to avoid Point Roberts like the plague.
Other border towns that rely heavily on Canadian shoppers at least have American customers. Not the case in Point Roberts. In any case, my reason for posting this initially, was to warn members here that may have parcels heading there to beware. Title: Re: Point to Point Parcel closing Post by: Twisted_Twin on March 27, 2025, 10:19:02 AM We had good service from the two stoners that ran The Mailbox in Lynden. Good guys to deal with.
A little weird but good guys. Title: Re: Point to Point Parcel closing Post by: Steve G. on March 27, 2025, 10:42:41 AM Package Express in Sumas have been all stars for 25 yrs. They even kept a package for me for over a year, no charge, during Covid lockdown. I know that Sumas is considerably out of the way for most here, but it is literally 1 minute walking g distance from zero avenue in Huntington.
