Title: Moving on up
Post by: Hawkeye on June 25, 2024, 08:36:56 PM
The last time we rode to Dream Cycle, I was the only member riding a collector plate. Last Saturday, I rode the Goldwing into town for some errands. It soon became evident that it had blown a head gasket. Third Goldwing, third head gasket job. Enough is enough!

Last night, I took possession of a 2016 Versys. I rode up to McCulloch Reservoir today. Some distance up Highway 33, then a few kilometers of gravel road, followed by a stretch of something other than road. I'm impressed with how this bike smooths out pot holes. No jolting at all. Not as smooth as a Goldwing on the highway, but a whole lot of fun.

ADV bikes are versatile, I really like my 1000 Versys.

Well done. There is no denying the sheer ease of use of a modern motorcycle, and how well they work. And while I currently own 3 ‘adv’ bikes, I’m fully accepting that most of them are designed to work well  in every catagory, but that most are not especially designed with form in mind, only function. That means they don’t look pretty. But I’m ok with that.

Good looking machine. Practical as well with the removable luggage.  I've known several riders in recent years who've moved into the Versyes 650's, and seemed very happy with them.

Old bikes are cool…but new bikes are better.

I love my 2015 Versys 650 as well. A lot easier to roll around in the garage or parking lot than a Gold Wing I'm sure. The 650 is very smooth and terrific on fuel too. If you throw a set of Shinko 705's on the bike you'll be good to go on all the gravel roads around here. Great choice Mike!  8)

A very good choice!  I would look seriously at one if my Goldwing ever gives up.  Currently at 265,000 km and running just fine.  And it has a reverse to move it around!

I called Henry when I was looking into this bike. His experience helped me make an informed decision. He also mentioned the Shinko tires.

This is the first bike I've had that doesn't look like a motorcycle, like Steve mentioned. It is growing on me, though.

Nice to see you bought it Mike.

I was also thinking of having breakfast at O,keefe this Sat and maybe have a look at the car show while I am there.
