Title: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Galactica on August 06, 2023, 03:36:45 PM Why is it that when you’re looking for a bike, you can’t find one suitable. And then when you’re not prepared to buy one, they pop out of the woodwork?
I’m up in Sicamous. A couple of CT70s came up for sale in Salmon Arm. I just missed them but I’m on a backup list. Should know by Tuesday if the initial deal falls through. Two bikes for $2400. Then today I got an email from a fellow I chanced across in a Safeway parking lot not long after I bought John’s ‘77 CB750. When I met the fellow he said he had a ‘75 CB750 he might part with and he gave me his email address. In the following week I sent him a couple of emails but got no response. Today, out of the blue, he emailed me to say he’s cleaning out his garage and would be open to an offer. Hopefully when I return at the end of the week I’ll be able to get a look at the CB750. A ‘75 is what I was looking for when I bought John’s ‘77. Wish me luck. Steve, I may contact you about a suitable offer amount. I believe it’s a candy red bike. Contact me when you see it. Original pipes? Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Galactica on August 06, 2023, 04:20:59 PM I’ve no idea of how complete or correct it is. I don’t believe it has stock pipes. That would be fairly rare.
Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: hardrockminer on August 06, 2023, 05:32:10 PM I've seen a few CB750's for sale on FB Marketplace lately. A couple of 550's and a couple of 360's.
Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Steve G. on August 06, 2023, 09:39:32 PM Just did a 1600 km radius search on Craigslist using Merrit as the centre mark. It’s actually a bit sad how many pre- 76 small tank K models have been ruined with the usual ‘cafe treatments’, with silly asking prices. A couple of them in Oregon with standard paint but aftermarket exhaust at $7k US. Small tank, exhaust, and the closest to 1969 makes a huge difference. Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: hardrockminer on August 07, 2023, 03:37:03 AM There is an orange 72 in Calgary for $5500. On FB. Also a 74 for $14000 and a 76 for $3700. A 71 in YVR for $15500. A nice looking 74 in Whitecourt for $1500.
Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Galactica on August 07, 2023, 06:27:02 AM Not at all sure how this will go. The fellow is on again off again and has an entrenched emotional attachment to the bike. I’d love to have a ‘75, but it’s not something I can’t live without. If I were to pick it up, it would be to do a full on restoration. That would be a huge commitment for me given my very limited income. And I’m not sure I even want to do another restoration. Been there done that. On the other hand, a ‘75 CB750 would be a keeper, more so than my ‘73 Z1.
Anyway, it’s all conjecture at the moment. I’m out of town until Wednesday. When I get back I’ll try to contact the fellow and go from there. Thanks guys, for poking around the inter web. That isn’t something I ever do, and I’m not at all good at it. Craigslist searches are even kinda difficult for me. Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Galactica on August 07, 2023, 06:28:52 AM Actually I’m kinda hoping the CT70s don’t become available. That would be a bit of a quandary.

Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Steve G. on August 07, 2023, 08:25:01 AM CT70’s are quite popular these days, especially street legal capable with the lights and the speedo, with prices reflecting this. Same for street legal Z50’s , almost cult following , big prices.
Title: Re: It never rains but it pours. Post by: Galactica on August 10, 2023, 08:40:48 AM Looks like the CT70s aren’t available. Schedules are conflicting. I won’t be able to check out the CB750 until the end of next week at the earliest. I’m in no rush, and it really sounds as if the fellow is quite unsure about letting it go. We’ll see.
