There’s no denying the push by the federal govt towards impossible zero carbon transportation system in this country, thinking that our country’s less than 1% world output will make any difference with carbon monsters China and India ramping up. It will however bring our standard of living closer to second world standards, the socialists goal of equal universal shared misery.
It did not offer any new % of new ethanol in fuel. I do know that most European car makers have told the US that 15% minimum ethanol will stop them from exporting cars, Porsche included. Our tiny first world problem of ethanol in our toys will mean adapting fuel systems if possible, and heavily supporting companies that offer zero % ethanol hoses.

I'm not a fan of ethanol fuels for all of the reasons previously discussed but I use it in my bikes and have had no issues so far.  It's not difficult to build engines that will run on higher ethanol amounts.  Brazil uses E85 and in some cases E100 country wide.  Just be aware that ethanol doesn't have the same energy density as gasoline, so mpg will suffer as ethanol percentages increase.

We currently import about $80 billion of stuff annually from China.  I would be in favour of finding "pests" in the containers coming into Vancouver and sending a few back.  A carbon tax on imports sounds appealing but guess who would be paying it?  My personal solution is to just stop buying S#*t made in China, although sometimes it's impossible.  (Try to buy a portable air conditioner made elsewhere.). Chinese manufactured stuff is ubiquitous on some sites like Amazon.  Nowadays they are even selling canned goods in our grocery stores.  It pays to read the label.

I'm completely on board with your thoughts on Chinese product avoidance. Their influence on the world is entirely negative. They are Lucifer.
Ethanol produced from formerly food based product like corn, for example, has hugely negatively affected food prices in Latin America. The utter hypocrisy of the 1st world to introduce this into our fuel whilst causing basic 3rd world food costs to increase for entire populations of poor citizens.
Yes, it is true that ethanol's BTU power is much smaller than gasoline, producing less fuel economy.

I think ethanol in NA is made mostly from corn, but in SA they use sugar cane, at least in Brazil.

Buddy of mine in West Van has purchased a $12 Briggs and Stratton ethanol testing kit off of Amazon. Has confirmed Chevron 94 at 5%, Chevron 91 at 10%.  He will be testing other brands and octane ratings and I will keep this thread updated.

Good to know. 5% with stabilizer over winter should be doable.

This is an interesting article that shows the grief that Ducati went through, and ultimately lost the class action suit.

Further evidence , Chevron 91 is 10% ethanol.

Off topic but the Chevron station at Squilax burned down in the fire.  We could smell it from our place as we were pulling out last Friday night.

My travels over the years through western Canada, I often found that Chevron stations in smaller towns did NOT have 94 octane as an option. I know ethanol free is gone ( maybe the next election) but did this station , run by ‘first nation’ ever have 94???

I never used that station so I don't know.  But the one across from Dreamcycle had 94.  She Shelel in Blind Bay had pure gas as well.

Today I took a sample of 91 octane Co-op from the station at 104th and 168th. Tested twice, it’s showing 0% ethanol. I’ve sent a letter to Otter Co-op HQ asking if this is just that this station has not been selling a lot of 91. I will update.

The Co op gas station here in Victoria (Wilkinson Road) has 91 Ethanol free.   I spoke with the manager today who told me that it would only stay ethanol free for a short while- said that it will end next month.

  Interesting!!

I haven’t gotten a response from them yet.

I wonder if they are just waiting for the change over to winter blends?

Went back to the Co op today to fill up an old thing or two, kid working there said that this is it- no more refills to their tanks with E free!

October 4th, tested again, still 0% ethanol at co-op stations run by Otter Co-op, SW BC.

October 17,2023, Otter Co-op in 91 is still zero ethanol.

Local Co op (Wilkinson road, Victoria) has shiny new stickers on the 91 (formerly Ethanol free) pumps telling us that the gas 'May contain 10% Ethanol' .

Yup, all the stations have 10% ethanol stickers now. Including the one I was at yesterday. But there are supply issues with this changeover. I tested it at the station before filling up for the winter. I noted 5 guys trailering their boats in to top up, so they have found out as well.
I don't know when this particular small group of Co-op stations run by Otter Co-op will change over. North Vancouver, North Surrey, Aldergrove, Chilliwack, and 2 in Western Abbotsford are unique among all other Co-op's in ownership and supply chain.

Honda Motorcycle Canada is advertising a fuel additive to prevent all ethanol damage to fuel systems old and new. Went to the biggest Honda motorcycle dealer in Western Canada to get some. It’s not a stock item, will only bring in a case of 24 bottles to  anyone who wants some.
