Ok, I'll try to make this as easy as possible.

Here's how to post pictures to the forum like a boss.

First, get yourself an online picture sharing account, I'll be using photobucket as an example.

Add some pics to your photobucket account.

Ok, here you can see that I have uploaded this awesome motorcycle selection chart to photobucket and have selected this picture from the folder. Now you need to look on the right hand side and find the box labeled "Direct", I've circled it in red.

If you click on the box marked "Direct" with your left mouse button, the box will turn yellow for a moment and the text "copied" will show in the box. This means that the address in the box has been copied into your windows clipboard.

Now, when you are composing your post on the forum, you will see a little icon above the text entry box with a framed picture in it, it is circled in red in the picture below:

When you click the picture icon, an image tag will show up in the post, it will look like this:

The cursor will be positioned between the image tag brackets as you can see in the picture above.

Now, RIGHT click the mouse button in between the IMG tag brackets. When you do this a menu will pop up like this:

If you left click on the "Paste" option, it will paste the image address from the clipboard into the message body as shown here:

Once that is done, click the mouse at the end of the last IMG tag or press the "end" key on your keyboard to begin typing in the message field again.

Or you can post them right off your own hard drive. Click on "Additional Options", below the text box. Then click "Browse". Hunt up the picture you want to post and select it. It will appear after the text in your post. You will notice that you are only allowed to post up to 3 pictures no larger than 250 KB each.

Resizing is as easy as emailing the picture(s) to yourself. In Windows, you can select one or more photos, then right-click on one of them. Select "Send To" and a box will come up with sizing info. I find that 800 x 600 is perfect for forum postings. Then send them to yourself. Go and open up your new mail and do a "Save As" on each of the pictures. I save them to the same folder, but add an "a" to the end of the file name, as you can see on the attached file. This prevents the original file from being replaced.

There you go. Now you have two good ways of attaching photos.

Yes, Photobucket has decided to ransom the internet and they're losing.

They want $400.00 a year for photo hosting now.

I've moved over to Smugmug, it's $40 for a whole year and much easier to use with less ads. The downside is that none of the old threads with pictures will work now but it's not a huge deal.

I never did understand why anyone would use a photo-hosting service, when it is easier to post from your own computer, even when limited to three photos, in some cases.

I like to use a hosting site because it also acts as a form of backup. Whenever a hard-drive crashes the first lament you will hear from people is the loss of their photographs. :(

Back them up your self on a SD card like we do.

They're too expensive, you know how cheap I am. Hosting sites are free! ;)

Bingo! That is what my wife is doing now after a painful hdd failure. I always liked to use Photobucket because it was a good way to get around the size issue limitation that many forums have. The image that you get from a photo sharing site is much larger as well. All of my photos are still on Photobucket, I just can't share from there anymore. As I noted, I'm too cheap to subscribe, and you get what you pay for. ;) If I put things onto an sd card they would be lost in a matter of weeks, guaranteed!  :o

you got the part about putting the image on a photo site, cool, next rigt click on the image and choices appear...choose "save image address" and click on it...next choose the image icon (second from left second row, looks like a picture frame) on the Classic forum and the paste the image in between this  img  img that appears in the dialog box when you do. To check how you did, hit preview before you hit post.

Why don't you guys just stop using Photobucket? there's lots of other free storage options out there, Flickr is exceptional. None of your pictures are working.

Hey, there's an app for that. I found an extension that you can add to your web browser that unblocks what Photobucket has done to stop our photo's from being shared on forums.

It appears that this extension doesn't allow you to post from Photobucket now, but it does let you view the photo's that you have posted in the past.

It is very easy on Firefox, click the blue button and click allow when prompted. I don't do Chrome, so you'll have to figure it out if that is your browser preference.  :)

  I think I may have finally figured out this thing. Thanks to James!  Here’s a test pic to see what it looks like, can’t tell until I download an entry.

 OK, I can see the results. slightly foggy, not super impressed. But at least a picture.
 Basically, using my smart phone exclusively, I sent a picture to the 'Files' app that's on all iphones.  Within that app, you can reduce the 'size' of the picture, in this case 3.5MB, down to large [564KB, which is still too large for this format] or medium [down to 147KB, acceptable size for this format], or small if needed. This method so far as I can see, does not give you any other sizing options other than 'full', 'large', 'medium', or 'small'. Not slide rule of sorts which might be used to download a picture as close as possible to the 250KB maximum.

Ya, not simple at all.  Even worse in your case.

I can email pics from my library to myself, shrinking the file size in the process.  Delete them from the library so I don’t get confused later.  Open the email and move the resized pics into the library and post them as normal from there. 

A really odd thing is that iPhone won’t allow you to resize a screenshot.

 Everything can be done on my iphone 12. Kinda clunky.
  The big issue is that once youve moved the picture you want to use from your 'photos' area, to 'save to files', and save it,,,,,go back to the files app, find the picture and just press your finger on it for a couple seconds, and a series of options pops up. Press "quick actions", and another box will pop up,,,,go to 'Convert Image", which then gives you the option to set the format to JPEG, PNG, or HEIF. Press JPEG, and another box will pop up giving you image size options,,,,,small, meduim, large, or original. the picture I'm attaching to this message is 103KB. I'm basically guessing and assuming that the 'medium' would be 1/2 the size of the original 103KB,,,,, and I'm wrong , it's 85KB. So Small is 24KB which is 240MB. So in this instance I'll have to send it in the 'small' designation. It would be nice if they had some kind of slide graph like the volume on a Youtube, that could see you slide the file size down to the very maximum that the forum can handle, like 249MB.

I still find it odd that your phone won’t let you resize the pics when you email them.  I’d heard of using the app you’re using.  But it’s an added complication I wasn’t willing to deal with so I just stopped posting pictures.  The I guess with a iPhone update, the resize option was reinstated.

  I’m gonna give that a try, emailing it to myself, and look around for a way to bring it down.
